NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL FAMILY CAREGIVER MONTH !
The month of November is a time to support and recognize family caregivers. The Family Caregiver Support Program at Tri-Valley, Inc. does exactly that! Through our Caregiver Scholarship Fund, we provide assistance by funding short term respite (a brief period of relief), adaptive equipment, technology devices and other services which benefit the caregiver. The funding is available once a year to adult family members caring for an individual 60 years of age and older, adult family members caring for an individual of any age with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, and grandparents or other relative caregivers (not parents) age 55 and older who are raising grandchildren.
Over the past year, the Scholarship Fund has contributed funding towards a range of caregiver needs including private in-home respite services, social and adult day health programs, a lift chair, a stair lift, a special one button radio for individuals with Alzheimer’s, cameras for safety monitoring, camperships, classes and gift cards for clothing and special school supplies for grandchildren.
Here are a few words from Caregivers expressing appreciation for the information, resources and support provided by the Caregiver Support Program and special assistance through the Caregiver Scholarship Fund.
A couple caring for her mother who lived with them and could not be left alone
wrote of their respite help:
We were just thrilled to have financial help to cover respite care while we took two days
"off" and went to New Hampshire to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary!
A wife whose husband, due to his medical conditions, could no longer
get up from a chair independently wrote:
Thank you so much for the check to help pay for the lift chair for my
husband - what a difference it makes!
A daughter, whose mother suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and was looking for a device which would be soothing and allow her to spend quality time with her mother wrote:
When the radio was plugged in, Mom stopped and sat down to listen to the
music - that brought a big smile to my face!
A grandparent raising her grandchildren wrote of her assistance with camperships:
Funding from the scholarship program allowed us to give them a week of quality
camp time - something we may not have done and so much appreciated!
