Dear Fellow Deans,

Greetings from New York!

We are off to a fantastic start with the new academic year—the largest entering class in our history, the successful launch of our innovative undergraduate cocurricular program and record numbers in our high-impact internship program! I am proud to share this superb news from Adelphi University.

IMPACT—Biz Plan Competition Receives Alumnus Thumbs-Up

The Business Plan Competition, which we started last year, received a big endorsement in the form of a $100,000 gift from Kevin Mahony '83 (finance), first vice president-wealth management at UBS Financial Services. The sum, matched by the Adelphi University Board of Trustees, will enable us to expand and enhance the annual competition, which is open to young entrepreneurs in all majors across the University.
INNOVATION—A Cocurricular Program Ensures Students Are Career Ready
The entering first-year class is benefiting from a new cocurricular program designed to make them career ready when they graduate four years from now. The program is named the Willumstad Winning Edge—in honor of former Citicorp president Robert B. Willumstad '05 (Hon.) , chair emeritus of the Adelphi University Board of Trustees, whose gift supports this initiative. Students will gain from a series of enriching programs from the day they arrive on campus to the time they graduate. From Microsoft Office certification to paid internships and job shadowing to cross-cultural experiences to personalized advising, these programs give our undergraduate business students a decisive advantage.
ENGAGEMENT—Internship Numbers at Record High

You know about our stellar internship program. Thanks to our dedicated Internship and Mentoring Program, headed by Neil Halloran , director of internships, we have hit new highs. Fully 79 percent of students who graduated this year had completed at least one internship, 94 percent of which were paid; the rest were for academic credit. The number of employers involved was 209, seven more than in the previous year. Leading places for our interns included Merrill Lynch, Ernst & Young, Morgan Stanley, 1800Flowers.com, Northwell Health, PWC, Canon and UPS.
