Last call for Honors Assembly forms!
If your senior has not already turned in his form from the graduation packet that had him list the colleges he was accepted to and any scholarships received, please have him do so immediately! That form is used, in addition to being our main source of data collection, as a way to gather information about who deserves to be recognized at the Honors Assembly. The form was due last Friday (April 25) and, although it may now be too late to have the information printed in the Honor's Assembly program, we will still accept the forms and will announce the information contained on them at the Honors Assembly.
Senior Parents:
With two and one-half weeks left for seniors, please take a few minutes to ensure that your senior student is passing all of his classes, has completed all of his distance learning classes, and secured an Early Grade Report form for his Pima classes. If you have any questions about your student's graduation status, please feel free to contact his counselor and/or the teacher of any class that you are concerned about. We look forward to seeing you at graduation!
College Visits
As you start to plan your summer vacation, consider adding a college visit into the mix! Regardless of what grade your student is in, it is never too early to start researching colleges, getting a feel for various college campuses, and learning more about the admissions process at the various colleges. There are literally thousands of colleges and universities in this country, so whether your vacation takes you to California, Maine, or anywhere in between, there is bound to be a college nearby! A few tips for college visits:
- Schedule your visit ahead of time - don't just show up and expect to be shown around. Most colleges offer daily campus tours as well as full-day campus experience programs (although these full-day events are typically held during the school year). You can usually schedule a tour on the college website (typically under the "new student" or "prospective student" tab). Basic campus tours are free.
- Once you know which colleges you will be visiting, do some basic research on those colleges. This will help you know what questions to ask while you are there.
- Take notes and pictures while you are there - after awhile the colleges start to blend together in your mind if you visit enough campuses. These notes and pictures are helpful to refer back to when it comes time to make those final decisions about where to apply and which college to ultimately attend.
- While a summer college visit is better than no college visit, summer isn't the ideal time to visit college campuses because it is hard to get a true feel for campus when school isn't in session. If there are particular colleges that your student likes after visiting this summer and wants to pursue applying to, you should try to schedule another visit to that campus during the school year prior to your student committing to attend that school (Fall Break is a great time to visit schools as very few places other than Arizona have a Fall Break!).
- If there is no way for you to visit a particular college that your student is interested in, take a virtual campus tour at http://www.campustours.com/
ECAP update
As a friendly reminder, all students should be working on updating their ECAP (Education and Career Action Plan) on a regular basis. Counselors will be visiting the senior English classes on Monday, April 28 to give seniors one final opportunity to finalize their ECAP summary card before graduation. If your senior does not have an English class on the CDO campus this year, please have your student see his/her counselor ASAP to finalize his/her ECAP.
Please remember that students can visit www.azcis.intocareers.org (user name: canyondohs and password: 4azcis02) anytime to continue to work on their ECAP. ECAP summary cards are housed in the counseling office.
Summer Opportunities
Just a friendly reminder that there are still many great summer programs available for students of all ages this summer. Counselor, Ms. Pati Mapp has been hard at work organizing a list of these opportunities for you: http://www.amphi.com/schools/cdo-high/counseling-page/summer-resources.aspx.
Summer School
Summer school will be offered this summer through the Amphitheater School District and it will be held at CDO. For specific information regarding registration and courses available, please visit http://www.amphi.com/district/amphitheater-community-schools.aspx or pick up a summer school flyer in the counseling office.
The district will also be offering online summer school again this summer through MDLP. For more information please visit http://www.amphi.com/district/online-summer-school.aspx. Students will need to have an online advisement form completed by their counselor before they can register for online summer school. Please have your student schedule an appointment with his/her counselor to discuss this further if there is an interest in taking an online summer class.

Graduating seniors, please check that you have a copy of your immunizations at home. You will need them when you register at college/university later this summer. If you are unable to locate them, please come by the CDO nurse's office before the end of the school year and we will be happy to provide you a copy of your immunization records. Please note that the nurse's office is closed during the summer and it will be more difficult to get copies.
Thank you,
