A Few Thoughts from Ed: ed pic

I know they say time flies...But this is  ridiculous! July already and just one month till our 8th Annual Customer Appreciation day!  Our entire staff is excited to share that day with you and boy is it promising to be an awesome day.  However, they tell me that my day will again include some dunking in the dunk tank.  Seems like so many of you enjoyed dunking me (over 90 times) that you will again have an opportunity to see me swim.  Oh well, Like last year anyone who brings in 25 lbs of food will get an opportunity to dunk me in the dunk tank.  (And if we reach 100 pints of blood...Deb goes in!)

Peggy  and  Deb have been racking their brains for weeks to come up with ideas to make this year not only a record breaking year, but also more exciting for all ages.  For the first time ever, we are committing one of the FREE firearms to those who give blood.  If you donate blood you will not only get your five tickets as usual but you will get a RED Blood Donor Ticket for the Blood Donor Dedicated Firearm.  Based on previous year's blood donations this will give you very good odds in the drawing.

Also, at this year's event we will be conducting FREE Seminars throughout the day.  Here are a few of the seminar subjects we are looking at; Considerations of the Shotgun for Home Defense; Choosing the Right Holster, On Body Vs Off Body Carry Considerations, Finding a Handgun to Suit Your Needs, and Shooting Fundamentals.  Watch for a schedule of events in our upcoming email blast about the event.

There is so much more to be excited for this year as we are introducing many new programs and offers throughout the facility.  You should notice some new signage and an increase in Facebook activity in the coming weeks.  A quick note on Facebook.  We want to increase our Facebook presence but we can't do that without your help.  Please whenever you have an opportunity share our postings with your friends.

Don't miss the Hot Shot Kids Fun Shoots that we are offering throughout the summer.  This is a great opportunity to spend time with a young shooter or shooter want to be.  PJ is leading the charge and he guarantees an educational and fun experience for both adults and the kids.  See the fun shoot section below for more info.

Reminder, we are using Facebook exclusively to announce our One Day Flash Sale items every week.   We will continue to reward our loyal Facebook guests by using Facebook exclusively to announce the arrival of the hard to get very high demand firearms.  These firearms will of course be offered first come first served for as long as supply lasts.

We would like to increase the use of our Selfie Wall designed for yo u to take a pic with your  target, friends, or new purchase.  Anyone who posts a selfie on Facebook and mentions Center Target Sports will be put in a drawing for a gift bag given out at the Customer Appreciation Day. Contest begins July 1st.

Notes from Peggy:

A reminder we will be closed on July 4th.  Happy Independence Day!

Remember that we have special rates at the Holiday Inn Express-CDA if you are coming in for classes or have visitors this summer...ask for the Center Target rate!

Charlie Till stopped by to give us a plaque from the Disabled American Veterans Ft. Sherman #9.  Thank you Charlie...We always have and always will support our Veterans!!  If you can read this newsletter, thank a Teacher, if you can read it in English, thank a Veteran!

We are once again looking for canopies and tables for our Aug 10th event.  If you have a 10x10 or 10x20 canopy that we can borrow for the day we'd really appreciate it.  Our event always seems to happen on the hottest day of the summer!  Contact [email protected] for when to bring it in.  Thank you in advance!

A reminder that we short the website spaces in our classes.  If the website says full, please call the range to see if there's one spot available.

Thank you to everyone who continues to donate to the Women's Shelter by bringing in toiletries and old cell phones.  Thank you from all of us.

Consignment Corner

Welcome to the consignment corner.  Remember many of the consignment guns have additional accessories.

We are unable to display or list many of the accessories that are often included with our consignment guns.   Items such as extra magazine (sometime 7 or 8 extra mags) holsters, tools, storage containers, ammunition, etc.

All of these extras add up to the overall value of the sale.  Imagine buying a $500.00 handgun that also has with it six $60.00 mags, that's quite a savings all for $500.00.

ASK THE STAFF ABOUT EXTRAS

We have a great selection of Consignment Long Guns at this time.  Too many to list individually.  Please see the picture below:

We have developed such a great reputation with respect to our consignment firearms that many of you come in and ask about our stock every week.

  If you're interested, don't wait!

(Bet they would like our Hot Shot Kids Fun Shoots!)

Reminder if you have children under 21 coming to visit you and you wish to bring them to the range we will need permission from a parent or guardian for them to shoot with you.  A signed note with a copy of the parent's drivers license if they are from out of town will do so we can match the signatures.  You will then need to fill out the waiver for the child when you come in.

Bullseye League meets every Thursday at 4:45 and  6 pm.    If anyone is interested in shooting Bullseye, we would be happy to have you join our league. It's costs  $7 to shoot for the evening and you need 65 rounds of ammunition. The second and fourth Thursday of each month, we shoot the national match course at 50 feet. The third and fifth Thursday of each month, we shoot at 75 feet. The first Thursday of each month, we have a fun shoot. On even-numbered months, we shoot a Centerfire pistol at 50 feet using the 75 foot Target. Makes for some really interesting competition. On the first Thursday of odd numbered months, we shoot the Jack McElroy Bastard Aggregate. For this competition we shoot 30 rounds of rimfire and 30 rounds of centerfire at 75 ft.  We then add both scores together for a possible 600 point match.  So please come join us for some great competition and camaraderie. We love to have new shooters join our group and hope to see you there.

IDPA meets the 1st and 2nd Sunday of every month from 7:30-11am.  Everyone's welcome.  Come watch and learn or participate.  Newcomers always welcome. $10

GSSF Glock Matches: Shoot in 2 of 3 matches in a series and be eligible to win a Glock pistol. Yes, Center Target Sports gives away a Glock every 3 months! Call the range for more details.

Please bring eye and ear protection as well as photo ID.  Dummy rounds for your specific caliber is also recommended along with 2-3 magazines if using your own firearm.   If needed, CTS will loan you a handgun free of charge with purchase of their ammo.

Everyone is welcome to attend the educational portion of the meeting from 5-6, however due to the growing number of ladies attending, we do not have enough mentors to work with new shooters. A basic pistol course is required to attend the shooting portion.  Exceptions need to be discussed with Darla.

Our 8th Annual Customer Appreciation Day
For Our Community...
August 10th,  9-2

FREE EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS ALL DAY

This year's community event promises to be bigger and better than ever.  This FREE  event is all about our customers and the community.  We are giving away 5 firearms!!!   We will collect food for the Post Falls Food Bank, Toys for Tots, and Blood for the Local Blood Bank.

This year we will again be giving away prizes every half hour from the tickets in the boxes.

We will again be printing your tickets with your name and phone number if you bring more than 25 pounds of food.  No more writing your names over and over and over!

IRON MAN Safes have again donated a new safe for our GOLDEN TICKET DRAWING.  (On display in our store)

We're repeating the special drawing for those that bring over 100 pounds of food.

Donate 100lbs or more of food and in addition to your 100+ gun drawing tickets, you will be entered into the Golden Ticket Drawing for a safe and lifetime membership to Center Target Sports... 200lbs = 2  Golden Entries!

In preparation we have already exceeded last year's number of vendors, special activities and entertainers that will be participating to make all of Post Falls and the Shooting Community proud.

This year we're again hosting a live broadcast from K102 with morning DJ Derik Walker on site.  And once again this year Joe Strain and kids have put together their best show ever!  You have to see it to believe it!

In past years you may remember that in 5 hours time we collected (thanks to our shooting community) 16,880 lbs of food for the Post Falls food bank, 5 totes of toys for Toys for Tots and 98 units of blood for the blood bank.

It is our goal to surpass all those totals. We promise to do our part.  We will giveaway at least 5 firearms and hundreds of other prizes.  Watch for more specific information in our special email blast coming next month.

Again this year instead of one ticket per food item we're giving one ticket for each pound of food you bring or for each toy.  Each ticket is a chance to win a gun or one of hundreds of other prizes.  No need to be present to win the guns.

This Month's Shooting/Safety Tip

This m onth some Travel Safety Tips.   Let's begin with general travel considerations and lodging safety. Prior to your departure date, take the time to photocopy all credit cards, airline tickets, passports and important documents, front and back. I suggest you photograph your jewelry and luggage as well as all valuables you plan to take with you. When choosing luggage, keep it "low-key" and stay away from the designer brands

Hotel room safety is often overlooked. If possible, select a hotel which has installed modern electronic guest room locks, dead bolt locks and a peephole. Check to insure your room telephone is capable of direct outside dialing. Always secure locks on windows and adjoining doors. Determine if the parking garage elevators allow passengers access to guest floors. They should only go to the lobby. You should know prior to arrival if the hotel is located in a high crime area, especially when traveling overseas. Check with the US Embassy's Resident Security Officer in that country and they can alert you of areas to stay away from.

During arrival and check-in stay with your luggage until it is brought into the hotel lobby. Thieves often take advantage of busy lobbies. When registering, sign only your last name and first initial. Don't use titles or degrees. If you are a women traveling alone, you might consider booking your room as Mr. and Mrs. Don't leave your credit card lying on the check-in counter while you complete your registration. Also make sure the credit card that is handed back to you by the hotel clerk is really yours. At check in, get two business cards with the hotel name and address on them. Place one by the phone in the room so you know where you are and take the other with you so you know where to come back to. There is nothing more frustrating than telling a cab driver to take you to the "Marriott" and they ask which one, or if you are in a country where you don't speak the language, you can simply show a taxi driver the business card.

Make it a rule to request a room located between the 4 and 6th floor. Avoid rooms above the sixth floor--the maximum height that fire-department ladders can reach. Whenever possible do not choose a hotel on the ground floor that has doors and windows that open to the outside. Hotels with interior hallways tend to be safer. Guestrooms that are as close to the elevators as possible are safest but tend to be noisier. Women traveling alone should be accompanied to hotel room and room should be checked while accompanied by hotel employee. Stay aware of your surroundings. Observe all passengers in elevators, board last and select floor buttons last while you position yourself near the elevator control panel with your back to the wall. If attacked, push as many floor buttons as possible. Don't hesitate to exit the elevator immediately if someone suspicious boards.

When in the room latch the dead bolt. If the room has a chain, twist it to take up the slack before latching it. Place your room key near the bed for quick access. It is not a bad idea to travel with a small door wedge (old fashion door stop) to use when sleeping or in the shower. This may seem a little overkill but overseas, hotel burglars have been know to  frequent hotels that use standard metal room keys that are easy to obtain. Never leave your key in the lock inside your room (some hotels in third world countries still have these). Unfortunately many hotels do not change the locks to the doors when the keys are lost. Criminals know that many of the hotel rooms might contain valuables of the presumed wealthy western traveler from the United States.
Always carry a small flashlight when you travel and place it next to your bed when you sleep. It's much too dangerous to be stumbling around in a dark hotel in the middle of the night if the electricity goes out. Also, if you have to evacuate in the event of a fire, the flashlight will help guide you down a smoke filled hallway.

Always leave the television on whenever you leave the hotel room in the evening. Don't display your guest room key in public or even inside the hotel or at the swimming pool. When you are away from the hotel only take a minimum of cash, and only enough travelers checks for that outing. Consider using the hotel's safety vaults for valuables left behind. I often carry a drop wallet for potential thieves. Wear minimum jewelry, especially women. Women, wear only a simple wedding band in lieu of a diamond ring. Keep credit cards and traveler's checks in separate pockets.
