A Few Thoughts from Ed:
Summer is almost over and the kids are almost back to school. I had so much I wanted to get accomplished this summer and I find myself wondering where did the time go? But this time of year also means hunting season is right around the corner. In fact, if you are an archery hunter and you have not been shooting arrows in preparation for the hunt,,,you better get started soon.
As I write this email I am reminded that we will soon be celebrating our 15th year in business. On a personal note, in a few weeks Peggy and I will be celebrating our 33rd anniversary.
The fall season also brings an increase in activity at CTS. Deb and the entire staff are well into the process of getting the facility ready for all of you. In addition to an increase in the activity level, many have recognized the increase in inventory both in quantity and selection. We continue to tweak our inventory to meet your needs. It is all about providing items you need which are not widely available.
We are especially excited about all we have accomplished with our AR rifles, Tactical Gear and our huge increase in our online Suppressor selections through Silencer Shop. We've also seen an increased availability of the PWS rifles to the largest selection of tactical gear and First Aid Trauma gear we can find. If you need these items... we have them.
Retake Policy:
I want to remind everyone about our retake policy. As I have stated many times we will always offer the "retake any class forever for free" policy. But, we have had a growing number of people who sign up for a retake and then do not show up for the class. With the growing number of people wanting to attend a class as a retake this is a real problem and a huge disservice to those wanting into a class but not able to get a slot.
SO, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE ARE SERIOUS ABOUT ENFORCING OUR RETAKE NO-SHOW POLICY THAT HAS BEEN IN EFFECT SINCE THE BEGINNING. If a student signs up for a retake and does not show up and has not given us notice within 24 hrs they will lose their ability to retake the class. They will have to pay for the class again to re-establish the retake ability. It is my hope that this policy will encourage retakes to call in and cancel if they will not be showing up which will allow us to offer the slot to someone else. Thank you for your understanding and compliance on this.
We are open Labor Day from 11an-7pm.
A reminder that we short the website spaces in our classes. If the website says full, please call the range to see if there's one spot available.
Thank you to everyone who continues to donate to the Women's Shelter by bringing in toiletries and old cell phones. Thank you from all of us.

John Farnam Is Returning to CTS
Out of Town and State signups are leading our local students...CTS Regulars, Don't miss this class!
November 22, 23rd and 24th
There have been a handful of instructors in the gun culture whom have made a dramatic impact on realistic defensive firearms training. The greats like Rex Applegate, Col. Cooper, Ray Chapman, Massad Ayoob, John Farnam, have long left their mark on realistic defensive use of the handgun. These men have always been focused on the student and the realistic principles of one's defense.
Many of the instructors who travel the country today offering the latest and greatest are actually teaching techniques and tactics developed by these men 50 years ago in some cases. The reality is the basic firearm fundamentals and the foundational manipulations associated with the fundamental application of the handgun have not changed much over the years.
I would highly recommend you take the time to experience the instruction of John Farnam. He has been a mentor of mine for many years. I am proud to call him my friend and encourage all students who are serious about quality realistic self defense techniques with a firearm to see for yourself when John is here. This class will start on Friday evening and then continue all day Saturday and Sunday.
On a side note: We do not profit from John's class. You pay him directly all the money stays with him. This is obviously a class that does not fall under our repeat for free policy.
You can register for John's class on his website: defense-training.com

Consignment Corner
Welcome to the consignment corner. Remember many of the consignment guns have additional accessories.
We are unable to display or list many of the accessories that are often included with our consignment guns. Items such as extra magazine (sometime 7 or 8 extra mags) holsters, tools, storage containers, ammunition, etc.
All of these extras add up to the overall value of the sale. Imagine buying a $500.00 handgun that also has with it six $60.00 mags, that's quite a savings all for $500.00.
ASK THE STAFF ABOUT EXTRAS
We have a great selection of Consignment Long Guns at this time. Too many to list individually. Please see the picture below:
We have developed such a great reputation with respect to our consignment firearms that many of you come in and ask about our stock every week.
If you're interested, don't wait!

Seldom offered Classes Now Registering!
Intro to Carbine - Oct 27
This is a class designed with the new carbine shooter in mind. It is as advertised an intro class.
Under our old format our basic carbine class often had students that had never even loaded an AR magazine let alone fired a shot. This required us to spend more time in the class room than was ideal and it also slowed our progress when we began shooting.
The perfect solution is to offer those true beginners an opportunity to get a good understanding of this very popular weapons system. The fundamentals of the AR are covered in detail and will allow the students to transition into the basic course with ease.
In addition, the basic course is now a 6 hour course with very little classroom and much more shooting time on the range
Basic Carbine scheduled Sept 15
Basic carbine is the class that teaches the proper manipulation and function of the carbine for defense. This is a 6 hour course limited to 10 students. This course is designed to introduce students to the rifle and develop safe essential rifle skills. You will learn the short and medium range applications which are encountered by Law Enforcement/Military personnel in an urban/rural environment.
This course covers: ammunition selection, ballistics, loading, unloading and malfunctions, positions and aiming, marksmanship fundamentals, cover and concealment.
Home Defense Shotgun - Oct 5
Have you ever wanted to
incorporate a shotgun in your home defense plan...this is the class for you. This new format is appropriate for people of all ages and physical abilities.
Topics of instruction include shotgun safety and responsibility, recoil control, marksmanship skill development, shooting positions, target engagements, threat assessment, and shotgun modifications/accessories.
In addition to learning the shotguns attributes, this course will teach you the shotgun's limitations. The student will be introduced to Close Range Engagement Techniques (CRET), reality based scenarios, and 360 degree coverage.
A combination of lecture, demonstrations, and live fire exercises will be used to teach the proper deployment of the shotgun from point blank to distances out to 25 yards.
All instruction materials, range time, and targets are provided by Center Target Sports.
- Students must provide the following:
- eye and ear protection
- Semi-auto or pump action shotgun
- Weapons mounted Flashlight(optional)
- 25 rounds of bird shot
- 10 rounds of 00 buckshot (low recoil loads recommended)
- 5 Slug rounds
Defensive Shotgun 2 - Oct 13
This is the class that teaches the advanced skills necessary to get the most out of the defensive shotgun. This class includes a door breaching exercise in which each student will make entry through our breaching s
tation.
This class picks up where the Home Defense Shotgun left off. This class does have a minimum equipment requirement that can't be waived.
Defensive Handgun 2 - Oct 20
This is an 8 hour course limited to 10 students. The primary goal of this course is to develop the defensive handgun and personal skills necessary to not only survive but control a lethal encounter. This course builds on the skills and theories presented in CTS-201. Students will learn and practice the skills, and attitude essential to surviving a lethal threat or confrontation.
The course will include both classroom presentations and live fire range exercises. A combination of Dry Practice and Live Fire with Real World Scenarios including multiple threats, low light shooting, hostage rescue, wounded shooter drills, equipment malfunctions, and moving targets. This course will conclude with a Course Review and Examination.
All instruction materials, range time, and targets are provided by Center Target Sports. The student is required to provide a handgun, two magazines or speed loaders, eye and ear protection, flashlight or weapons mounted light, a billed baseball type cap, 250 rounds of ammunition, and a strong side holster
Terminal Ballistics - Oct 26
If we piqued your interest about gunshot trauma in our CCW or defensive classes, you won't want to miss the "how the trauma is caused" class we call Terminal Ballistics.
This is the class that will put to rest all the myths of stopping power, knockdown power and dispel much of what we see on TV and in the movies.
This class is based on fact and science as well as testing by men and woman a lot smarter than me.
However, I have studied terminal ballistics for over 30 years and have been fortunate enough to surround myself with people who live this terminal ballistic life as a profession.
This is a class you will not want to miss.
We will also cover the new G9 shaped projectiles and their impact on our industry.

We have the most comprehensive first aid / tactical care equipment in stock within 100 miles. Regardless if you are a wood cutter or participate in shooting activities, trauma equipment is an important safety consideration.

This Month's Shooting/Safety Tip
Defensive HG Drills That Work and Do Not Break the AMMO Budget
There are tons of defensive handgun drills in online forums and magazine articles that give the impression that the shooter has an unlimited supply of ammunition. Don't miss understand me...I believe when it comes to practice you should get as much as possible, but there are smarter ways to do this that won't cost you a fortune. Hope that doesn't sound funny coming from someone who sells ammo, but short ammo supply should not equal limited shooting practice.
Shooting, like learning most performance tasks, is all about
repetition
, particularly when it comes to mastering
sight alignment and trigger press
. Building your shooting skills can be fairly simple and, contrary to what many instructors will tell you, it does not require an all day outing at the range. It does however require purpose specific practice along with target interpretation. What I often call "having a conversation with your target". Below I have listed a few inexpensive and simple drills that will improve your defensive handgun skills without you having to mortgage the farm.
TSG Drill 1.
Place a full size silhouette target at 21 feet. Your goal is Two Shots on One Target.
Start this drill pointed in on the target, make sure you are indexed. Start with two hands and then repeat the drill with one handed shooting (don't forget the support side). Whether you wish to use one hand or two to steady the gun is your choice. Start off very slowly and aim for the high mediastinum.
Remember your three dimensional viewing.
This is not a drill for speed; you are working on sight alignment and trigger control. Perform this drill 3 times with both hands and then once with each hand one handed.
TSG Drill #2:
Place another full size silhouette target at 21 feet. Your goal is One shot on Two Targets.
Place the additional target beside the first at least 2 feet away. Start with two hands and then repeat the drill with one handed shooting (don't forget the support side). Again you are going to have your handgun aimed at the target, trigger finger indexed. Start by shooting either target, it doesn't matter but don't always shoot the same one first. Change it up so you don't pick up bad habits.
Fire one shot at the high mediastinum of each target. Again, perform this drill three times shooting with both hands and then move to one handed shooting. Do this slowly at first (remember, you are learning the rhythm of the shot) the speed will come later; right now you want accuracy and a consistent rhythm.
TSG Drill #3:
Fire on One Target, Reload and Then Fire Again at the Other Target
This drill has you firing one shot, speed reload and then fire one shot again on the other target. If you are using a revolver, keep a
speedloader
with one round loaded in it or a magazine with one round loaded. Again you are building muscle memory and part of that is loading the weapon. Start with the gun pointed in on target, trigger finger indexed. Repeat this drill three times with both hands and then once single handed with each hand.
TSG Drill #4:
Draw From Concealment and Fire One Shot on One Target
It is important to begin this drill at a slow controlled and safe pace. Again your body and mind are learning muscle memory through repetition and it is important to get all the steps right, especially
drawing the gun.
Start off with the gun in your holster with all retention devices fastened. To make this drill more realistic, wear a cover garment. Start the drill with both of your arms down at your sides exactly as you would have them normally. Draw the gun from its holster and fire one shot to the high mediastinum. Perform the drill three times with both hands and twice with dominate hand, re-holstering the gun between each drill and securing any retention devices.
TSG Drill #5:
Drawing From Concealment for Three Shots on Three Separate Targets, One Shot for Each Target.
Like the previous drill, you are going to be starting this exercise with the gun secured in its holster. You will need three targets for this drill, all side by side no closer than two feet apart from one another, all at a distance of 21 feet. Draw from concealment, fire one shot on each target for a total of three shots. Whether you shoot from left to right or the other way around is up to you but as before, don't fall into the habit of doing it the same way every time. Re-holster and secure all retention devices. Perform the drill three times shooting with both hands and twice with dominate hand only.
Remember in our indoor range you'll be unable to do Drills 4 & 5 unless you come to the Draw Session for Def HG 2 and above students.
