A Few Thoughts from Ed:
ed pic

As we approach the spring of 2020, I can't help but think of the busy pace we are experiencing at CTS.  We are so blessed by the support of our community. Deb and the team are working very hard at every aspect of our business.

As hard as we try, we need you to offer suggestions on new products, services and classes.  We need your insight to keep us moving forward.  Please contact Deb, Peggy or me with any ideas.

There is a lot happening in the political arena with respect to our community. I encourage everyone to research the local candidates and choose wisely. Some candidates are tremendously out spending other candidates like we have never experienced in Kootenai County before. Please remember having the most signage does not mean the most qualified.

We are looking forward to our classes out at Fernan Rod and Gun Club this summer.   We are very fortunate to have a facility like FRGC in our community.  I encourage all of you not to forget about FRGC and support them at every opportunity.  We are able to offer the most Advanced Carbine, and Precision Rifle classes offered anywhere in the country because we have FRGC available to us.  Thanks to everyone at FRGC.

Please see below our new class developed specifically for those students interested in Church Security. I have been developing this class for almost a year and we are excited about offering it in April for the first time.

Peggy continues to offer Refuse to Be a Victim and I am so proud of her efforts to promote this very critical information and support the local women's shelter with 100% of the proceeds. Thank you to all of you for promoting her awesome class.

Notes from Peggy:

Happy St. Patrick's Day! May the luck of the Irish be with you!

A reminder that we will be CLOSED on Easter Sunday. Happy Easter!

SAVE THE DATES:  You can't sign up yet, BUT you can hold the spot on your personal calendar....Advanced Carbine will be Sun June 28 and Precision Scoped Rifle will be Friday night July 24 and all day July 25th.  If you're interested, click the link below and go to the bottom of the page. Click on the "express an interest" and we will send you an email when you can enroll.  Advanced Carbine    Precision Scoped Rifle

Also, don't forget to mark your calendars for Aug 8th...our customer appreciation day!

A reminder that we short the website spaces in our classes.  If the website says full, please call the range to see if there's one spot available.

Thank you to everyone who continues to donate to the Women's Shelter by bringing in toiletries and old cell phones.  Thank you from all of us.

New Class starting in April

Church Security Tactics and Considerations

April 11 & April 22

The need for security in any location where people gather to worship continues to increase across the country. Never before have we seen the congregation challenged with respect to safety as we do today.  This class will be offered for the first time in April.

On a weekly basis we receive more inquiries about church security training programs than any other.  We have been teaching church security here at CTS for over 13 years.  Thus far, all the church security training has been in a group team format or individuals attending our defensive classes to gain experience.

I have been working for almost a year on a class that would be comprehensive and focus on the most critical considerations for an individual or group of people that wish to be prepared for the role of a church security participant.

NOTE:  Because of the anticipated popularity of this class I am instituting a 6 month Blackout period on our FREE retake policy.  Students that complete this course will be able to retake the class forever for free starting in November.  Thank you for understanding this policy as this will allow us to immediately accomodate the most students in the shortest amount of time.

This is an 8 hr class limited to 10 students. The primary goal of this class is to develop defensive handgun and personal skills necessary to effectively perform the duties of armed church security.   This course will include both classroom presentations and live fire exercises. Real world scenarios including multiple threats, low-light shooting, wounded shooter drills, team tactics, equipment malfunctions, and moving targets.

Topics in this class include:

Security Team Development, Less Lethal Intervention, Pastoral Protection Elements, Post Incident Considerations, Armed Congregation - Crowd Control, Emergency Response Safe Gun Handling, Firearm Wound Proficiency, Firearm Manipulation and Refinement, Defensive Shooting Skills, Multiple Target Engagement, Moving Targets, Shooting While Moving, and Low-Light Shooting.

Out Shoot the Sheriff
March 6th 5pm
On March 6th at 5pm we are hosting a fund raiser/meet and greet for the most qualified candidate for Kootenai County Sheriff.  Please take the time to stop by and meet Rick.  He does not have the most election signs and other candidates are way out spending his advertising.    But the size of the campaign fund or the number of "Vote For Signs" does not make the best qualified candidate.  Come by and support the best candidate, Richard Whitehead!

Consignment Corner

Welcome to the consignment corner.  Remember many of the consignment guns have additional accessories.

We are unable to display or list many of the accessories that are often included with our consignment guns.   Items such as extra magazine (sometime 7 or 8 extra mags) holsters, tools, storage containers, ammunition, etc.

All of these extras add up to the overall value of the sale.  Imagine buying a $500.00 handgun that also has with it six $60.00 mags, that's quite a savings all for $500.00.

From Range Practice to the Street

Shooting in a bullseye match and shooting to defend yourself are completely different.  Pretty much every element of shooting is different and these differences will be discussed during this clinic.  We will discuss everything from handgun projectile trauma expectations to ammo selection and shooting mechanics as well as the legal aspects you would be expected to encounter.

Deception Detection

Have you ever had a conversation where you thought the person was lying but you didn't know how to explain it?

Deception Detection (Forensic Statement Analysis) is a tool that is highly effective in the detection of deception.

This is a fun, interesting, and interactive presentation where you will be analyzing real crime statements, to determine Truth or Deception?

Our speaker is: Richard Whitehead whom has over 40-years of Law Enforcement experience and is considered an expert in this topic.  Through his training firm he has trained investigators of all types from Texas Rangers, attorneys, to private eyes and consults with agencies across the country on high profile cases.

Please call to reserve your spot.  208-773-2331

Do you have a topic idea?
Why take Basic Pistol II ?

For a number of years we have offered Basic Pistol 2 as a much more effective learning experience than retaking Basic Pistol.  I wrote Basic Pistol 2 to capitalize on range time and provide the students with comprehensive hands on shooting skill development and analysis with an instructor present.

We accomplish this by limiting the time spent in the class room and spending most of the time on the range with development and diagnostic shooting exercises.  Students who want to improve their shooting will get so much more out of taking Basic Pistol II than merely repeating Basic Pistol.

Give Basic Pistol 2 a try and see for yourself.

In order to take Basic Pistol 2 you have to take CTS's Basic Pistol class first.

Bullseye League meets every Thursday at 4:45 and  6 pm.    If anyone is interested in shooting Bullseye, we would be happy to have you join our league. It's costs  $7 to shoot for the evening and you need 65 rounds of ammunition. The second and fourth Thursday of each month, we shoot the national match course at 50 feet. The third and fifth Thursday of each month, we shoot at 75 feet. The first Thursday of each month, we have a fun shoot. On even-numbered months, we shoot a Centerfire pistol at 50 feet using the 75 foot Target. Makes for some really interesting competition. On the first Thursday of odd numbered months, we shoot the Jack McElroy Bastard Aggregate. For this competition we shoot 30 rounds of rimfire and 30 rounds of centerfire at 75 ft.  We then add both scores together for a possible 600 point match.  So please come join us for some great competition and camaraderie. We love to have new shooters join our group and hope to see you there.

IDPA meets the 1st and 2nd Sunday of every month from 7:30-11am.  Everyone's welcome.  Come watch and learn or participate.  Newcomers always welcome. $10

Everyone is welcome to attend the educational portion of the meeting from 5-6, however due to the growing number of ladies attending, we do not have enough mentors to work with new shooters. A basic pistol course is required to attend the shooting portion.  Exceptions need to be discussed with Darla.

New Divison for GSSF

As many of you are aware, Glock introduced the G44 their .22lr in January. We have had some questions about whether it will be included in the GSSF matches each month, and we will be starting a division for that model in April.  We chose April as that is the start of the next series when we start a new course of fire.

The G44 did not officially become available until after our match in January and we thought it would make it more equitable to give people time to purchase one and compete with a full cycle of three months rather than just two months. We also did not know for sure what the availability of the new model would be. Fortunately, there are ample supplies available and we know that some of you have already purchased one. So, how does this new model fit in with the monthly sessions?

There will be a new division for Rimfire and only one plaque will be provided. Anyone shooting the G44 will be able to compete and earn the 500 patch for a perfect score. Only stock G44's will be allowed to participate in the matches and any modified models will be unable to shoot them in the competition. So you now know that there will be a Stock Rimfire division and it will shoot the same course of fire as the other stock models. Yes, you get to shoot at the 75 foot targets that you all love with your G44, and I know you are all happy about that (he says with a smile on his face, or maybe it is an evil little grin).

We know those of you who have the G44 are practicing and excited to start using them in competition, so it is coming soon. I look forward to seeing who will be the first 500 shooter.

If you've taken Def HG 2 or higher here

an open shooting session to practice those skills this is the perfect opportunity to participate in this fun activity.

Firearm Cleaning and Inspection

When was the last time your favorite firearm was detail stripped and cleaned?  Just like your car, your firearms need the occasional cleaning too!  Bring your firearm to Center Target Sports, and get your firearm the proper treatment!  Our professional gunsmith will take your firearm completely apart, clean thoroughly, and reassemble.

Parts will be inspected as they go back in, and function tested properly.  If there are any damaged or worn parts, we will let you know so you can get them fixed.  $50 gets you this complete service.  We recommend you have this done every 5000 rounds, or at least once a year.  Don't wait for the gun to fail!  Bring it in to Center Target Sports today!

Machine Work
Did you know that Center Target Sports is your one stop shop for machine work on your firearms?  Need your rifle threaded for a muzzle break?  How about some target sights on your favorite 1911?  Do you need a scope mount on that old Mauser?  Looking for a completely new caliber for your bolt action or AR style rifle?  Center Target Sports is here to help!  Our professional gunsmith has years of machine experience, and stands ready to assist you with completing your next project.  Come in and talk with us at Center Target Sports today!

Trigger Jobs
How do you like the trigger on your favorite firearm?  Is it gritty?  Jumpy?  Sloppy?  Does it have a clean break, or does it seem to take a mile of pressing to make the gun go off?  Most firearms can be tuned to have a smoother, lighter, and more consistent trigger pull.  Let our professional gunsmith go over your trigger, starting at $75 for labor.  Better trigger translates to better accuracy.  If you are a competition shooter, you know that means better scores.  If you are learning, that inconsistent trigger makes it hard to diagnose your errors so you can improve.  Don't let your guns mediocre trigger get you down, make it better at Center Target Sports!

Defensive Semi-Auto Reliability Package
So you've got your brand new semi-auto firearm.  You know its new, you know its sturdy, but is it reliable, accurate, and comfortable to use?  Can the trigger be smoother?  Can the sights be brighter and easier to pick up?  Yes, they can!  Our Reliability Package addresses all these concerns.  Come in to Center Target Sports and see Clint for more specific details on the magic he can perform on your firearm!

Defensive Revolver Package
New or used S&W revolver in hand, you know that defending yourself is serious business.  Being equipped with the best firearm for your needs is a good start.  Getting that firearm running smoothly and cleanly is the next logical step.  Our Defensive Revolver Package is your best choice.  For $150, we will clean and tune up your S&W, Ruger or Colt revolver.  A spring kit from Apex Tactical, made specifically for defensive revolvers, with an action job from our professional gunsmith, will lighten and smooth up your double action trigger pull.  We will also properly install an XS Dot sight to make picking up the front sight fast and easy.  A bright white ring in the day, and a tritium ampule at night make this sight work for you anytime.  Come in to Center Target Sports and see our example gun today!

Hunting Accuracy Package
You are ready for hunting season.  But will your rifle be able to keep up?  Modern bolt action hunting rifles are typically fairly accurate right out of the box.  But the more accurate your rifle is, the more confident you can be in taking game cleanly.  Why not give your rifle every advantage?  Before the nights get cold, bring your rifle to us, and we'll get you that advantage!

Our Hunting Accuracy Package takes your scoped bolt action rifle to the next level.  We start by stripping everything down, and giving it a thorough cleaning.  The action is then bedded into the stock, providing a solid base to keep everything consistent.  Then your trigger is adjusted to a standard of 3 lbs., or your preferred trigger weight.  The rifle is then reassembled, and the scope mounts lapped into perfect alignment.  Your scope will be remounted and bore sighted.

Product Highlights

De l-Ton AR's

We have recently transferred in a number of Del-Ton AR's.  Everyone seems to be very pleased about these very moderately priced AR rifles.  We now have a couple in stock for you to see for yourself.  Please see below one of many online reviews.

Review from their website. Extremely pleased with this gun. I've had it since June of this year and it has performed flawlessly. I've run it for maximum accuracy as well as maximum output and I have not encountered any malfunctions in the 4K rounds put through this rifle. I have never been an advocate for more expensive exclusively equaling better. With the gun including after market modifications: Maxim Defense CQB Stock, Optic, Weapon Light, Rail Attachments, and S.I. FH; I still spent less than $2,000.00 fully upgrading this rifle and I trust GOD that I would be able to confidently defend my life and the life of my family and those around me with this machine.

This Month's Shooting/Safety Tip

Dealing with Aggressive Drivers

Let's tackle "Road Rage" this month.  We need look no further than the media or police reports to confirm that aggressive driver confrontations or what is often referred to as Road Rage is a growing problem. It is highly probable that at some point you will have been subject to some kind of aggression, whether it's justified or not, from another driver.

Why are so many drivers emotionally volatile and willing to use violence against other drivers? Some say it is simple frustration. Life's problems have a way of overwhelming us and aggressive driving is an easy way to release the tension. More than one psychiatrist has said the sense of anonymity offered by the privacy of the vehicle contributes to the driver's willingness to become aggressive. It's the Dr. Jeckle/Mr. Hyde syndrome, in that the normally respectful polite person you enjoy talking to at the office becomes the aggressive violent driver you desperately try to avoid on the highway.

Many of us have witnessed an almost "video game like" driving pattern displayed by aggressive drivers. They swoop back and forth between lanes and anyone who gets in their way will feel their wrath. Lane swoopers and tailgaters seem to be at the beginning of most road rage encounters. If you encounter a swooper, try to safely slow down enough to allow them a safe path. If you hit your breaks or try to accelerate and cut them off, you are likely to escalate the problem. Tailgaters tend to be very competitive and aggressive. They generally don't like anyone in front of them. If possible move out of the way and allow them to pass.

Sometimes it is our driving patterns that create the problem. Perhaps we are in a hurry and wind up tailgating someone and we don't even realize we are doing it. The faster you drive to make up time, the more likely you are to drive dangerously which will increase your anger and frustration while angering other drivers around you. Work on driving consistently ie: keep a consistent speed, always use signals, and don't tailgate.

A genuine mistake or general carelessness may appear to other drivers as irresponsible driving. We all make mistakes. We tend to take driving and the skills necessary for defensive driving for granted. I often see other drivers who are preoccupied with cell phone conversation, their children, eating and even shaving or applying makeup. Understanding that we may be part of the problem can go a long way to tolerance in general. Try to adopt a strategy of believing that most incidents which could result in road rage are simply driver errors that you should be willing to forgive.

If you made the driving error and the other driver becomes hostile, don't react. If the driver becomes aggressive to the point of trying to cause an accident, pull off the road in a safe well-lit area or if necessary call 911. If you witness aggressive driving, stay out of the way and contact authorities when you can.

Last but not least, ask yourself, are you an aggressive driver? Are you part of the problem? I know my driving often reflects my attitude based on the way my day has gone. For me, I often play soothing music as I begin my commute and it really helps induce a feeling of calmness.   It is incredible what 30 minutes of El Divo can do for my attitude.  So if you pass me on the highway and I am singing in Italian, be glad my windows are shut.
