Version 4.8 Released

Version 4.8 of ExtremePOS, Musicware, and Praiz has been released!  As previously noted, this version includes new versions of Purchase Ordering and Vendor Returns, accessible through the store menu.  While we are not removing the old versions of purchase ordering and vendor returns before the beginning of the new year, these will be migrated fully at that point, so please try the new versions and give feedback.

In particular, if you are using electronic ordering, we need to know which electronic ordering formats to bring forward.  Many of these were done for particular customers or companies, some of which are no longer in business, so please send us feedback with formats you are using.

Additionally, we have also introduced automated sales reporting to Parable for bookstores that are interested in reporting those numbers.  You'll need an account set up with them; contact support for further information on enabling this once you have the account with Parable.
Logos on Receipts

One function virtually all modern thermal printers have that you may not be taking advantage of is the option to print a logo at the top of your receipts.  While this does use more paper than just having the address block, it can also be eye-catching, particularly on gift receipts.

The exact details of how to load in a logo vary from printer to printer; for printers purchased from us, supported users can talk to us for help loading them.  What you'll need before anything else is a good logo for your store - preferably a bitmap, but definitely something that will look good when the receipt printer prints it in black and white.  Don't try to use an image that is, for instance, red on green or you'll just end up printing a blob of black.

The exact width of the image will vary from printer to printer, but most will automatically resize it.  Still, for best results, around 600 pixels wide is the typical desired width.
ExtremePOS Mobile Updates

With the recently released 4.8 version of ExtremePOS, we're offering the option to switch one of your normal registers out for an ipad register.  This simply trades the register functions - backoffice functionality is still managed through the windows register.  Still, either as a replacement or as an additional register, ExtremePOS Mobile can make for a handy linebuster during the holiday season.

Using the iPad this way does require ExtremePOS Store Server, so contact Sales for further information.  If you'd like to see a demo of what the register looks like, you can download it to your iPad absolutely free from commitment by searching for ExtremePOS Mobile in the app store, and utilizing our demo server with the following credentials:

Address:  Extremepos.net
Port:  7597
Mobile Username and Password:  epos

Your cashier ID and password are 01 and epos for this demo.

What's Next?

Our next major update will not be until after the first of the year; we generally try not to release them during the holiday rush.  But we're getting another round of improvements ready for after the New Year, including but not limited to:
  • New Vendor Database lookup screens
  • Updated Invoice searching
  • Updated Physical Inventory, including alternate ID scanning
  • An updated time clock
  • Updated Special Orders / Preorders screens
  • Updated Repairs screens.
We'll have more on these and other changes in future newsletters.

We will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th for Thanksgiving.

The current version of the software, available for supported users, is 4.8.0.  If you want to get back on support, contact sales at (919) 387-7597 x100.
