Notes from Mr. Brian O'Neil, Principal

Here is a look at recent and upcoming items of importance to the school community.

Hillcrest Open House

Open House this year at Hillcrest will take place on Thursday, September 14 from 6-8 p.m. at Hillcrest Intermediate School. Both grade levels will be on the same night.

Parking will be limited at Hillcrest so be aware that buses will be available from the Middle School and High School to transport parents/guardians to the building. You will get more information closer to Open House.

Hillcrest Picture Day

School pictures are scheduled for Thursday, September 14. Picture make-up day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18.

Hillcrest Shining Knights

At Hillcrest, when students are "caught" following the Keys to the Castle (Respect Self, Respect Others, Respect Property) by staff members, they are entered into a drawing for prizes. This week's winners received Sheetz gift cards!

Scholastic Book Fair

The Hillcrest book fair will be on September 12, 13, and 15th. The schedule for teams attending the book fair is as follows:

Tuesday, September 12 - 5B, 5D, 6A, 6E

Wednesday, September 13 - 5C, 5E, 6C, 6D

Friday, September 15 - 5A, 6B

Hillcrest PTA Chick-fil-A Spirit Night

Tired of cooking? Consider joining Hillcrest Intermediate School on Wednesday, September 20th for a Spirit Night Fundraiser! Our friends at the Chick-fil-A in Greensburg will be donating a portion of your order to the Hillcrest PTA all day long! Our Spirit Night (or Spirit Day) runs from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Please mention "Hillcrest Intermediate School PTA" when ordering or add "Hillcrest" in your organization code for mobile orders.

Norwin Football Games

If your family is planning to attend Norwin's football games, please click here to review the new procedures regarding students who are in attendance.

Also, Norwin will once again be utilizing "online ticketing" for the 2023-2024 school year. There will no longer be a cash purchase option for tickets. Click here to get your tickets online.

Norwin Fall Bright Bytes Survey

The Norwin School District has partnered with BrightBytes, an educational research organization, in order to continue to learn about our students’ school and home technology use for learning.

Parents/guardians, students in grades 3-12, teachers, and administrators are asked at the beginning and end of each school year to answer a short questionnaire. Participation from all of these groups is valuable in helping us to form a more complete picture of technology use for learning. Please know that all responses are anonymous.

Teachers will ask students to answer several technology and learning questions during school next week. Parents/guardians can begin submitting their responses through a link in an upcoming Skyward message. Responses will be collected from Monday, September 4th through Tuesday, September 12th.

Participation in the questionnaire will provide us with a comprehensive view of the benefits and challenges that arise from integrating technology into the learning process. Your responses will aid educators and administrators in making informed decisions to enhance the educational experience for students.

Involvement in this questionnaire is greatly appreciated. The candid opinions of all participants will help shape the direction of technology usage in the classroom. Thank you for considering taking part in this important initiative.
