Sanctuary Walls Update

The general contractor has removed small sections of plaster at the altar wall and the balcony's exterior wall to further evaluate these areas having continued water intrusion. Under supervision of the engineer, the contractor’s technical execution of previous work will be reviewed. Also, rain simulations and natural rain events will be monitored until the source of water intrusion is identified and repaired. The removed plaster within these areas will remain open during this time and painting postponed. 

Faith And Grief Group Meets Tomorrow

The pain of grief can be intense and lingering, calling for ongoing support. Join Holy Trinity’s Faith and Grief gathering this Thursday, Feb. 8 from noon to 1 p.m. in Broome Hall to share fellowship and personal stories. Register and order lunch here.

Join TWIGS, Where Age Knows No Boundaries!

TWIGS (Tose With Infinitely Greater Sense) meets Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in Roe Library for Bible study and a lively discussion of Sunday’s readings, psalms, and gospels. Embark on a journey of reflection during Lent, exploring meditations from A Way Other than Our Own. 

Healing Meditation and Compline Service Offered On Zoom

Compline, a service to close the day, is offered the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Dr. Bev Vaughn opens with a short healing service incorporating various types of meditative practices such as mindfulness and Reiki followed by Spiritual Director Gale Robins leading Compline. Labor of Love Support Group Meets Feb. 15

Labor of Love Support Group will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 in Roe Library. The support and networking group is for those who are caring for aging or chronically ill family members or friends. To learn more, contact Maureen Flak at [email protected].

Holy Trinity partners with One Step Further to help stock their Community Support and Nutrition Program. On the third Sunday of the month, you can bring grocery items to church. Pick up a bag and shopping suggestions after both services this Sunday, Feb. 11 for collection on Feb. 18.

Observe a Holy Lent

During the 40 days of Lent, in addition to Sunday services, Holy Trinity will offer Holy Eucharist at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Chapel.



Early Christians, in preparation for the upcoming Paschal Feast, observed “a season of penitence and fasting.” The earliest observance was for two days, but within a couple of generations the observance was lengthened to six days. Following the Council of Nicaea in 325 when Church leaders established uniform observances, the Church, imitating Christ's fasting in the wilderness, began to observe a 40-day period of preparation, what we now call Lent. In the western church, the 40 days of Lent extend from Ash Wednesday through Holy Saturday, omitting Sundays, which are days of celebration or feast days. The last three days of Lent are the sacred Triduum of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.

Holy Trinity invites you “in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.” (BCP 265)

Join a Lectio Divina Lenten Covenant Group

Groups Begin the Week of Feb. 19

Holy Trinity has a long tradition of gathering in covenant groups during Lent. A Lenten Covenant Group is a small intentional community of up to 10 people who meet weekly in person for approximately one hour to share spiritual reflections and to walk together on a Lenten spiritual journey. This year, we’re using A Way Other Than Our Own by Walter Brueggemann to guide our reflections. We give thanks for our experienced Lenten group leaders Jan Walker, Gale and Tom Robins, and Rachel Starmer. Click here for more information and to sign up.

The Choir of Holy Trinity will present Go Out in the World, a program of readings and music celebrating Black History Month, coming up at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25 in the nave of Holy Trinity.

NC Episcopal Cursillo Coming up April 11-14, 2014

NC Episcopal Cursillo #111 is April 11-14, 2024 at Camp Walter Johnson in Lexington, N.C.

Cursillo is a Diocesan program and is an opportunity for Episcopalians seeking to grow their faith to meet and learn together. At Cursillo, you will experience the gift of God’s love through shared prayer, worship, study, and fellowship. 

Anyone may attend a Cursillo Weekend who is:

• a baptized Christian;
• an Episcopalian or a member of a Christian denomination that is in good standing with the Episcopal church;
• physically able to fully participate in the Weekend;
• open and willing to participate in the Fourth Day;
• able to participate in communal activities;
• lives in or near an Active Cursillo community; and
• able to receive and participate fully in the Sacraments.

Let’s Have Lunch with New Friends! Coming Up on Feb. 25

Holy Trinity is hosting a Lasagna Lunch from 12:30 until 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25 in Haywood Duke. We’re inviting 50 of our friends and neighbors experiencing food/housing insecurity to join us. Here are three ways YOU can be a part of this new ministry:

1. Sign up to provide lasagna, garlic bread, salad, or dessert. Please drop off food on Sunday morning in Haywood Duke from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. or after Christian Formation, 11:15 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
2. Help serve lunch and clean up afterward.
3. Join Us for Lunch! Gather around tables to enjoy lunch and get to know our new friends.

Let us be the Hands and Feet of Christ

Our neighbors have been suffering mightily due to the weather conditions. We are in great need of warm socks and gloves to distribute to the guests of Hot Dish and Hope. We have distributed all of the blankets, sleeping bags, gloves and Hot Hands that were generously donated at Christmas. Gently used coats, sweaters, warm clothes, and shoes/boots would be appreciated. There are guests of every size: men, women, and children. Be a Host Family During Stillpoint

Our Stillpoint service on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. in All Saints Chapel is the chance to find that "still point" in the middle of a busy week. There is also a ministry opportunity for families.

Price Scholarship for Holy Trinity Confirmed High School Seniors

The 2024 Price Scholarship application is now live online and ready for confirmed Holy Trinity high school seniors to apply! The scholarship provides $16,000 ($4,000 per year) to one senior attending an accredited four-year college or university as a full-time student for four years. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to achieving success during high school and in future collegiate studies and have financial need. The scholarship packet includes an application, essay, two letters of recommendation, and high school transcript. Applicants who complete the application with all components by March 20, 2024 will be interviewed by the Price Scholarship selection committee in early April. The recipient will be announced before May 1, 2024. Click here to access the application.

Communion Milestone for 3rd - 5th Graders

We normally offer this milestone in K- 2nd grade; however, parents have requested the Communion Milestone be offered to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who missed it due to Covid. This Sunday, 3rd-5th graders will have special lessons on the Eucharist during their regular Sunday school class. On Sunday, Feb 18, at 10:15 a.m., in All Saints Chapel, Fr. David Umphlett and Marjorie Donnelly will lead a family-friendly conversation with the children and their parents about the Eucharist and its symbols and they will visit the sacristies. The preparation culminates on Sunday, Feb 25, at the 9 a.m. service with a Celebration of Communion for the children and their families followed by a children’s Sunday school party.

SAVE the DATES for Vacation Bible School June 17 - 20, 2024

Vacation Bible School registration will open soon! VBS is open to rising four-year-old Pre-K through rising 5th graders. Rising 6th graders and older can serve as Junior Shepherds. With a theme of "Compassion Camp: What Every Living Thing Needs," participants will explore what all living things need to live - shelter, food, water, air, and community - and how they can have compassion for all of God's creation. Adult volunteers needed! Children whose parents volunteer all week attend Vacation Bible School for free. Contact [email protected] to volunteer.

No EYC this Sunday

This week, in place of Sunday school, youth will be helping with Souper Bowl Sunday pick-ups. Grades 6-8 will help from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.; Grades 9-12 will help from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. Both shifts include attending a church service. There will be donuts for middle schoolers. 

High schoolers will go to A Special Blend coffee shop after their Souper Bowl Shift, 3900 W Market St, Greensboro, NC 27407.

Please note: youth are not allowed to drive other youth during church events. Youth without their own cars will ride to A Special Blend with Jenny Campbell, Carole Neale, B.T. Neale, or Ben and Freya Thomas in their personal vehicles. 

There will be NO EYC this Sunday, Feb. 11.

Glory Ridge is Hiring Summer Staff for 2024

A summer at Glory Ridge can be a profoundly wonderful experience for those who feel called to it. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, have completed one or more years of college or equivalent life experience, and have a sincere desire to work with teens, deepen their own spiritual journey, and help others grow in Christ. Experience as a Glory Ridge camper is preferred but not required. In the Footsteps of Jesus: Holy Land Pilgrimage

Oct. 13-24, 2024, 13 days

In light of the current situation, I know that it is difficult to imagine a pilgrimage in the Holy Land. As we pray for our Jewish, Muslim, and Christian brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, we still need to get registration open for next October’s pilgrimage. 

What I am asking at this time is for you to sign up as if everything were safe and the trip were able to move ahead. I am delaying the requirement for non-refundable deposits until the point at which we know the trip is going to happen. I have been in close contact with my guide friends in Jerusalem over the last week. They had a group with them at the time that the violence broke out. They were able to complete the pilgrimage and are now working to get the last four pilgrims out of the country. Iyad Qumri and his son Rami are the gold standard for Anglican/Episcopal pilgrimage in the Holy Land and I trust them completely. They will not let us move forward unless they feel completely safe.

I anticipate limiting our group to 25 people, so please sign up quickly to assure yourself of a spot.

Where Do My Children Go On Sunday Mornings?

• Nursery Care for birth through 4-year Pre-K returns to 8:45-11:15 a.m. (during the 9 a.m. service and the Sunday school hour) in Room 105. During Sunday school, children will sing and listen to a Bible story.
• Children’s Chapel offered at the 9 a.m. service for four-year Pre-K through 3rd grade in Room 211. Please send children with money for the offering, which is collected each Sunday and added to the offering in the church. Children will join their parents in the church at the Peace.
• Children’s Sunday School for kindergarten through 5th grade: Gather at 10:15 a.m. in Room 211 to sing with Mr. Riley before moving to their individual classes: kindergarten through 2nd grade in Room 209, and 3rd through 5th in Room 211.
• Youth Sunday School meets in the Robert Payne Youth House from 10:15-11 a.m. All youth in grades 6th-12th are invited to join for donuts, activities, and scripture-based lessons. Unpack what you heard in church in a fun and engaging way!

Try An Adult Formation Class Sunday Morning

• Dante and the Good Life, 10:15 - 11 a.m. in Haywood Duke: Parishioner and UNCG professor Dr. Tony Cuda will lead a series on the epic tale of Dante’s journey to the afterlife. This journey still excites new readers and offers resonant insights into why we suffer and how we learn. The class will focus on how Dante uses tales of sin, loyalty, longing, and sacrifice to convey what it means, within and without the Christian tradition, to live the good life.
• Parenting Sunday School Class, 10:15 - 11 a.m. in Broome Hall: Holy Trinity Chaplain Linda Snow will facilitate “What Will We Tell the Children? Talking to Kids About Death and Dying.” In this 4-week study, we will examine our own attitudes about death and confront the myths surrounding how children perceive death. We will look at how children respond to death and grief throughout the developmental stages and identify the components of kids’ grief. Learning how to better support our children on their grief journey will have a tremendously positive outcome in their lives. Copies of the book, What Do We Tell the Children?: Talking to Kids About Death and Dying by Joseph M. Primo will be available for purchase in class for $16.

The Beloved Community Commission, focusing on racial reconciliation and social justice, meets the first Wednesday of each month in Roe Library. All are welcome and you’re invited to bring your dinner to the meeting. 

Through education and self-reflection, the BCC works to raise awareness of the continuing presence of racism and to align ourselves with others in a wider community to combat it as well as all forms of oppression and bigotry.
