Community Vision
|
10-year Community Vision
to the Chico City Council.
This vision outlines our standards and expectations for...
1. A safe community
2. Healthy city government
3. Thriving anchor businesses
4. Vibrant shared spaces
5. Premier facilities and community amenities.
The vision outlines common goals that will move Chico forward. Chamber partnership and membership now mean standing together to achieve a common vision for Chico that meets all of our expectations. We are certain that the Chamber, along with our members and partners, will make a difference in this community for the better, and it all starts with our Community Vision.

On one hand, District Attorney Mike Ramsey says, "Chico doesn't have a shoplifting problem." On the other hand, a long-time Chico retailer says, "we're going to be in a war forever." Who is correct? Well, if you look at the number of local shoplifting prosecutions in 2017, the DA is clearly right. But, talk to any retailer and you hear story after story of increasingly flagrant theft.
Mr. Ramsey was being facetious, of course. He knows better than anyone that shoplifting is rampant. His comment was intended to drive home the point that decisions made by businesses to report and prosecute are critical to 1) understanding the volume of theft, 2) bringing about any justice when it occurs, and 3) providing the information needed to prevent it in the first place.
The Retail Watch program co-hosted by the Chamber, DCBA, and Chico PD, is more than just a conversation about arrest data, however, it offers a chance to develop real solutions to common incidents occurring in local businesses. If you are a retailer and time doesn't allow you to participate, we're working on a FAQ page and signs you can place in your business to demonstrate a proactive approach to shrinking our retail "shrink" in Chico. The next meeting is April 30
th
, from 10-11am, at Oxford Suites. RSVPs a
nd a retail affiliation are required to participate.
At the state level, we're working to reverse the policies that softened our response to crime in the first place. The Chamber Board recently endorsed the "Reducing Crime and Keeping California Safe Act of 2018."

to join the coalition of businesses and organizations behind this effort. This initiative is so important to us, the Chamber office will soon be a signature-gathering location to ensure it qualifies for the ballot.
This month, we'll host a Lunch Hour Q&A with our new Fire Chief Steve Standridge. Join us
on April 19
th
from noon - 1 p.m. at Fire Station 5 and bring your questions!
Also, save the date for our 2018 Chico City Council Candidate Forum on September 5

, 8:30 a.m. - 10 a.m., at the CARD Center. There are so many opportunities to lift your voice and make a difference this year. We're doing everything we can do make sure it's heard.

As a Chamber staff and Chico native I am very proud of the work we are doing at the Chamber and what we have accomplished in just two years! Community Impact Partners, including our newest Steward Partners

Chamber Ambassadors
|
|
In March the Ambassador team continued its outreach to members of the business community. At our March Ambassador meeting we had a membership call day and contacted existing Chamber members who had upcoming anniversaries. We received some great feedback and during the call learned more about each member, what their needs were and how best we can support them through our team and resources. We had a great 'Let's Do Lunch' at Buffalo Wild Wings and Chamber Business Connections were hosted by The Terraces Senior Living, Prestige Landscape and Nursery, Groups Recover Together, and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. These are events that are great opportunities to support our local businesses and to network within our business community. Grand Opening and Ribbon Cuttings were held by Northern Valley Indian Health and 9Round. This month's Membership Walk was focused on the north end of Mangrove Ave and our team visited with several member and non-member businesses, it is a nice way to pop in and say hello to all businesses within Chico.
I invite you as s member of the Chamber or those who just may want to learn more about the Chico Chamber and the Ambassador program to contact me. Let's do coffee or lunch!

Explore Butte County

Did you see our
travel guide in the San Francisco Chronicle? We sponsored a 16 page spread on March 18
th
in the San Francisco Chronicle's travel section. This was done as a partnership with Explore Butte County, as well as some local partners that also helped make our section awesome. If you didn't get a chance to see our section in person we have links to the various articles written by the San Francisco Chronicle on our Facebook page. We are working hard to put Butte County on the map for visitors!
I am also pleased to announce Explore Butte County's new Executive Director, Carolyn Denaro. She comes from a background in tourism from the Calistoga Chamber of Commerce and has been working for the past year as Explore Butte County's Program Coordinator. We are very excited to have her continue her work for bringing tourism to our area.
Our next scheduled board meeting is on April 12th. If you would like to be added to our information or newsletter list please email me and I will add you.
