DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Purple is the DV awareness color. The Pinellas County Domestic Violence Task Force is asking that we "Paint Pinellas Purple" on 10/01/18 (National Day of Unity for DV) and 10/25/18 (Pinellas Day of Unity for DV) to raise awareness about DV and to show support for survivors of DV.

On these dates please consider wearing something purple - a tie, a shirt/blouse, a dress, a scarf, or a purple ribbon pin. Consider putting a purple ribbon on your office door/cubicle wall, home front door, antenna of your car, kids backpack, etc.  The idea is to have purple be visible throughout the community.  And....when someone asks you what the purple ribbon is, you share that to increase awareness and support survivors.  This is a quick and easy way to make a difference in our community.

Also, ABC Action News is having their annual "Taking Action Against Domestic Violence" special on 10/03 at 7 pm.  This is their 10th year.

MEETING UPDATES
2018 CITIZENS' ACADEMY
This week's session was hosted by the Fire Rescue Department at Fire Station 41.  The session included a fashion show featuring all of the gear used by Fire staff in the performance of their duties, a station tour, EMS demonstration (with bone drill) and equipment demonstration, then it was back to the common room for questions.  The class had a lot of good questions for Fire staff and remained engaged throughout the night.  Commissioners Robinson and Holmes also joined the class. Kudos to Fire staff for a great session!

This year instead of surveying participants at the end of the Academy, short surveys are being sent each week while the session is still fresh. Next week's session will be hosted by the Public Works Department.
