EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio - The East Cleveland Public Library is rolling out the purple carpet this month for a special showing of The Color Purple (2023). The free screening will be shown in the Greg L. Reese Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 23, 2024, with doors opening at noon.
The film is based on the award-winning novel and Broadway Musical of the same name and follows the protagonist, Celie, as she navigates being a Black woman in the south during the early 1900s. The story is ultimately about finding sisterhood through hardship with the women around you.
Patricia Cook, the Adult Reference Library Associate who coordinated the event, says, "I am so excited for the screening of The Color Purple at the East Cleveland Public Library. This is a great opportunity for people in the community who have not seen the movie to view the film on the big screen. We are expecting over 100 people to come out wearing their purple garments and walking the purple carpet before the screening... Come out and have fun with us."
Patrons are encouraged to pick up a complementary movie ticket bookmark, and socialize. Seating will be limited, at a first-come, first-serve basis.
