On May 10, I presented a $500 check to Mary Potter and former mayor Steve Steiner for the 'Save the Depot' project from the privately donated Mayor's Community Fund.
If you would like to learn more about the 'Save the Depot' project, visit the Blue Springs Historical Society's website by clicking here.
At the May 21 Council Meeting, the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce presented the 2012 Blue Springs Leadership Class to the council.
This class hosted the Cinco De Mayo Health & Wellness Fiesta earlier this month at the Blue Springs High School.
This program aims to develop a leadership pool for the present and future of our community.

I wanted to give a big thanks to Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Quibell for performing some Mayoral duties while I spent time visiting family in California.

News Happenings
Around Town A bi-weekly message from your Blue Springs Mayor and City Council |
Greetings!
Hello and welcome to News Happenings Around Town, your one-stop source for City information and news updates, including those items most important to you.
Memorial Day weekend is almost upon us. It's a time for us to thank those who have given their lives for this great nation.
This weekend is when we enjoy family, food, friends, fun and freedom. I wish you all a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.
I speak often about civic engagement and I want to remind everyone that our Boards, Commissions and Task Forces consist of Blue Springs residents that volunteer their time to serve our community. These meetings are open to the public and I encourage you to get involved. To learn more about your Boards, Commissions and Task Forces, click here.
As always, please continue sharing this timely publication and spreading the word about what's good and going on in the City of Blue Springs.

On May 16, I joined Ecto President John Rose and Vice President Ed Lawrence as they broke ground on an expansion of its headquarters here in Blue Springs. The expansion project will add 2,500 square-foot addition to accommodate future growth. Ecto is an 18-year-old company providing chemical and pesticide formulation, registration and research services for pharmaceutical and animal health companies.
Ecto has a special meaning to me as it all started when I met someone in their organization while getting my tires serviced on Big Red. We are excited that Ecto no only calls Blue Springs home, but is expanding its business here as well. This event was co-hosted by the Blue Springs Economic Development Corporation.
Development continues to progress at Adams Dairy Landing. TJ-Maxx and Home Goods are open and Ross Dress For Less will be opening soon (top photo.) I am also proud to announce that Charming Charlie's is now open (bottom photo.)
Construction on Woods Chapel Road is in full swing. Utility Companies have been working this week to relocate lines to make room for the widening phase of the project.
Please note that speed limit has been lowered to 25 miles per hour and that fines will be doubled in the construction zone. We want to ensure that this project is safe for both commuters and workers.
