A bi-weekly message from your Blue Springs Mayor and City Council
Greetings!

Hello and welcome to News Happenings Around Town, your one-stop source for City information and news updates, including those items most important to you.

It's hard to believe that we are already in November and that in just a few weeks, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving with friends and family.

November 11 was Veterans Day and I would like to thank the veterans in our community for their service to our country.  The Wounded Warrior High Five Tour 2013 stopped at Blue Springs Ford on Nov. 9. The Mustang Club of Greater Kansas City invited the Blue Springs Police Department's DARE Mustang to be part of the celebration. Special thanks to the Blue Springs VIPS for their help with this event!  To see a few photos from this event, click here.

I would like to say a special "Thank You" to Rancho Grande for catering the Shop with a Blue Springs Cop fundraiser dinner last weekend.  Proceeds from that event will help sponsor the 30 Blue Springs School District students participating in the Shop with a Blue Springs Cop event this December.  If you would like to get involved in this event, contact Officer Brotherton at (816) 935-6770.

As always, please continue sharing this timely publication and spreading the word about what's good and going on in the City of Blue Springs.

This year's Community Prayer Breakfast was on October 31 at the Adam's Pointe Conference Center.  Our keynote speaker was Joplin Missouri's Superintendent of Schools Dr. C.J. Huff who led his community in an amazing effort to rebuild.  The Joplin community is currently transforming their disastrous tragedy into their finest hour.

The special guest Ashley Leiker also shared her incredible story of survival during the devastating Joplin tornado.  Ashley teaches at William Bryant Elementary School and we were fortunate to hear her inspiring story.

I want to thank the Community Prayer Breakfast Committee consisting of Donna Best, Dale Falck, Jim Finley, Brandon Jackley, Judy Qualkinbush, Kathy Richardson, Eddie Saffell, Steve Steiner, Justin Stewart, Dale Walkup and Debbie Williams for coordinating this dynamic breakfast and I look forward to next year's event!

Congratulations to Team Blue Springs who battled hard in the 2013 Eastern Jackson County Municipal Challenge and came in 4th place. Independence came in 1st, Grain Valley/Oak Grove took 2nd place, Raytown took 3rd; Grandview and Sugar Creek took 5th and 6th place, respectively.

The Blue Springs Team had representation from nearly every department in the City, with over 30 employees participating in 15 events over the two-week contest!
