A bi-weekly message from your Blue Springs Mayor and City Council
Greetings!

Hello and welcome to News Happenings Around Town; your one-stop source for City information and news updates including those items most important to you.

Congratulations to Blue Springs' own Village Garden for winning the WeddingWire Couples' Choice Award 2015.  This award, given to the top five percent of local wedding professionals, is determined solely from reviews and surveys of newlyweds and their experience working with Village Garden.

Also, I want to congratulate the Blue Springs School District for their recent accomplishments.  To see a quick BSSD TV video highlighting this accomplishment, click here.

As always, please continue sharing this timely publication and spreading the word about the good things in the City of Blue Springs.

Annual Business License Renewal

A friendly reminder to our Blue Springs business owners that March 1, 2015 is the deadline to submit the annual business license application, payment and accompanying documents.

As a result of the extra due diligence performed by City staff to verify state licenses and proper insurance, a new $25 contractors fee has been implemented for plumbers, mechanical, HVAC and electrical contractors.

If you have any questions about the process, click here.

Thank you to all of the new and current Blue Springs business owners and your continued contribution to our community.  If you have any questions about the business license renewal process, please click here.

Fieldhouse Update

Work on the Blue Springs Fieldhouse is showing significant changes since it was purchased by the City this past August.

Crews have started removing the wiring from the former bar area and throughout the ceiling. These teams have also removed the soccer turf along with the glass and wood walls surrounding the field. In an effort to conserve/reduce waste, all glass was kept to be used in the new fitness area and on the south soccer field. The 100 wood wall sections, measuring 4 foot by 8 foot, were given to the Habitat for Humanity.

All pieces that can be recycled are being sorted including components from the walls, windows and doors of the office area.

The recent good weather has helped us stay on track and we plan to start construction in March with a scheduled completion date of late summer 2015.

Blue Springs School District Ranks High

Congratulations to our Blue Springs R-IV School District for their Niche ranking as 2nd in the Kansas City area and 5th in the State of Missouri!

More than 8,000 school districts in the nation were ranked by students based on factors including academics, teachers, resources and facilities to name a few. Keep up the exceptional work!

Public Safety Building Progress

We are well into the third and final phase of the Public Safety Sales Tax Initiative and the updates to the Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building are progressing well.

Partial installation of the electrical and plumbing is underway and the drywall and taping is almost complete. After the roof is in place it will allow for more activity on the site through the winter weather.

We are still looking at late fall for a completion date.
