A bi-weekly message from your Blue Springs Mayor and City Council
Hello and welcome to News Happenings Around Town, your on e-stop source for city information and news updates, including those items most important to you.

I am pleased to share Blue Springs has again been recognized by the Missouri Municipal League (MML) for the Blue Springs Fieldhouse. Keep reading for more details.

There are a number of events coming up in Blue Springs to be excited about. This Friday, September 16, we kick off our 47th annual Fall Fun Fest in Downtown Blue Springs. Bring the family and enjoy unique food vendors, live performances and more for this three day event.

September is also National Preparedness Month. Emergencies and disasters can happen at any time. Your family may not be together if a disaster strikes, so it is important to think about the following situations and plan just in case. I encourage you to make a Family Emergency Plan today.

As always, please continue sharing this timely publication and spreading the word about the good things in the City of Blue Springs.
Missouri Municipal League Innovation Award

From Left to Right: City Administrator Eric Johnson, Mayor Carson Ross, Director or Parks, Recreation and Buildings Dennis Dovel and Mayor Pro Tem Chris Lievsay

It is my pleasure to share that the City of Blue Springs is the recipient the 2016  Missouri Municipal League Innovation Award for the Blue Springs Fieldhouse. This marks the second year in a row that the City has won this distinguished award.

In late 2014, the City decided to invest in residents' recreational and wellness needs by redeveloping the former SportsCity building into the current Blue Springs Fieldhouse.  The City saved a significant amount of taxpayer dollars by repurposing an  aging, function-specific building in our community.

Created with people in mind, the Fieldhouse provides recreational opportunities the entire family can enjoy together. While one person uses the instructor-led spin and aerobics classes, another family member can try an interactive workout through the Fitness On DemandTM feature, allowing them to follow along with a virtual instructor. Another option is to use the state-of-the-art fitness center measuring 6,500 square-feet outfitted with equipment that has the latest technology to help users track and maintain their fitness goals.

The Fieldhouse continues to serve the needs of the community and will be celebrating their one year anniversary at the end of this month.
Enjoying The Taste of Blue Springs
It was a nother great turnout for the annual
Taste of Blue Springs event!

This is the second year for the community event and more than thirty restaurants participated and brought delicious samples for visitors to try. Attendees also had the chance to enter raffle for prizes.

A number of canned goods were collected to support the Blue Springs  Community Services League and funds raised will help with future efforts of the  Blue Springs Historical Society.
