Starting 2026 with Girlguiding Northamptonshire

As we wave goodbye to 2025 and look forward to another exciting year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all that’s been happening across Girlguiding Northamptonshire and share a little of what’s ahead for 2026. I know many of our units have already got their heads together for planning meetings, and RENs are being signed off in readiness for the new term’s indoor and outdoor residentials. It is fantastic to see so many varied opportunities opening up for our girls – each one a chance to try something new and grow in confidence.

Shaquilla is, as ever, on top of all things Inspire. You will have spotted plenty of details in previous editions of News and Views, and there’s more to come. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming events and get involved where you can!

Festive Fun Across the County

It was truly heartwarming to see and hear about so many festive events happening throughout our units, Districts, and Divisions. Chris and I were privileged to join the Kettering Division’s Christmas event – a thoroughly enjoyable evening that really got us into the swing of the season. Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, and even the Trefoil Guild came together to celebrate. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

Not long after, Helen, Lesley and I joined Northampton Nene Division’s Christingle Service. This was a little different to the usual, but just as special. All the girls made their own Christingles before a lovely short presentation on what Christingle means, bringing a real sense of togetherness and reflection. A huge thank you to Sam and Emma for organising two wonderful evenings.

Looking After Each Other – Subscriptions and Support

With the new year comes subscription time, and I know this can be a concern for some units. Please remember, you are not alone – there’s help available, whether from Region, County, Division, or District. If you’re worried about covering subs, the most important thing is to reach out as soon as you see the trial invoices. Speak first with your District or Division Commissioner; together, we can find a way forward.

New Activities and Opportunities

We are pleased to announce an archery instructors’ course at the end of the month. Having more archers means even more girls and leaders can enjoy this brilliant activity. If you have ever fancied giving archery a go, this is your chance!

Don’t forget about our two fantastic residential centres in the County – Jubilee and McQueen. We know that organising a residential can feel daunting, especially if you’re short on leaders or girls to make it viable. Why not team up with another unit? Or, if you’re unsure where to begin, or have any worries about residentials, please reach out to Stacey by emailing goingaway@girlguidingnorthamptonshire.org.uk – she will be more than happy to help and support you.

Listening and Growing Together

As with any new team, there will be changes – that is all part of moving forward. If we get something wrong, or if you have suggestions for how we can do things better, please let us know. Your feedback is invaluable.

On that note, we have had several suggestions about News and Views, and we would really like to hear more from you. Included with this month’s edition is a survey to help us make News and Views even better for everyone. Please take a few moments to share your thoughts – it really does make a difference.

Wishing you all a happy and rewarding New Year. Here’s to 2026 – let’s make it a year to remember!

With best wishes,

Mandy, Helen, Chris and Lesley

Thank you very much for my floral Christmas table decoration and gift vouchers. It was a privilege and honour to lead the county alongside Mel and Sharon over the last 5 years, and I have great memories of what we all achieved together. Thank you once again for your support. Best wishes. Adèle Cooney

Inspire (18-30) group took part in pottery painting at Potz Ceramic Studio in Weston Favell at the end of November.

Great fun was had by all. It was so relaxing and therapeutic…..Pinterest became our best friend! It was probably the quietest you’ll ever find us all haha.

We shall definitely be back! Shaquillia

CINEMA - If you are between 18-30, come and watch Wicked for Good on 17 January 2026 at Cineworld Rushden Lake. £16 each, 5 hours free parking.

Wantage District Leaders organised a Christmas crafts day, where all sections had lots of fun crafting, chatting, making new friends, eating, getting covered in glue, and causing chaos.

A wonderful day with extremely exhausted leaders going home for a well deserved cuppa (or something else). Thank you again for giving up another weekend day. Sandy Lewis

Hazel Copping - Guilsborough Division

1st Towcester Brownies

It was UK Parliament week and we were excited to welcome a Towcester town and WNC councillor to Brownies’ on Wednesday.

Cllr David Tarbun - Lib Dem for Towcester gave a witty and informative presentation to the Brownies. We then debated the best biscuit!

We then practiced our voting with our Guide helper Emily as the returning officer.

The girls voted that the best thing about Brownies was making new friends

They also asked David some really intelligent questions. The three things they would improve about Towcester were a new secondary school, more trees and more opportunities to help charities. The future is safe in their hands - Sarah Hamilton

Going away on a residential this year?

Don’t forget to check your venue is approved for staying overnight in.

If it isn’t on the list please contact the residential adviser to arrange a visit to approve it; goingaway@girlguidingnorthamptonshire.org.uk

Training Pins

All the time you spend keeping up to date in your Guiding roles can help work towards a training pin.

This includes both e-learnings and face to face trainings - so attending a safe space, first response or county training day will give you hours towards a pin.

Training Record Cards are available to print from the county website, so you can record what you do and then apply to the office for your hard-earned brooches. It also explains how to count your hours and what can be included.

Nights Away Badges

Keep track of your nights away using the record card below. When you reach 1,3,5,7,10,15,25,50,75,100,150 and 200 nights you can celebrate with a Northamptonshire nights away badge.

If you make your purchase from the county office you will need to add on postage unless collecting - order form for that below or purchase via the guiding shops in the usual way.

Tuptonia

A trip on our jointly owned narrowboat Tuptonia is ideal for planning something new or different for your unit – maybe a weekend for your Brownies or even a week with your Guides or Rangers. Perhaps it could be a peaceful outing for your District team?

Tuptonia is available for hire from March to the end of October and for most of the year is moored at Lapworth (10 miles west of Warwick) – ideal for a trip into Birmingham or down the locks - but will be coming to Weedon again from 26th June to 9th August 2026. This is an ideal time for evening, day, weekend or longer trips especially as some of this is in the school holidays. A skipper can be provided if you need one.

Bookings open on 1st January 2026 and priority is given to Northamptonshire units during January for the Weedon dates so get your booking in early!

The journeys to and from Weedon can also be booked as a one way trip which normally takes 3 days – again these are popular so get your booking in early!

To make a booking or for more information contact tuptonia@girlguidingnorthamptonshire.org.uk

Training If you are interested in becoming a skipper or someone who can help a skipper the training dates for Skipper and Confident Crew are: 20th-22nd March and 17th - 19th April 2026. For more details contact tuptonia.trainings@gmail.com
