2023 Yellowstone County Summer Jobs Program Kick-Off!

On Monday, May 22nd the students, employers, and mentors participating in the 2023 Yellowstone County Summer Jobs Program gathered together at Big Sky Economic Development to meet and get to know each other before the official start of the Summer Jobs Program. Mentors and supervisors were given separate orientations before students arrived and were paired with their supervisor and mentor for a variety of icebreaker and "get to know me" questions. Each student will work over the summer in their position with the employer they were matched with, and meet on a regular basis with their paired mentor. Everyone will gather again at the end of the summer for the YCSJP End of Summer Celebration. The Yellowstone County Summer Jobs Program matches participants with a paid position, provides a paid foundational work skills training, and connects students with an adult mentor for the summer. SJP participants are high school students and recent graduates eager to develop their work skills and explore their career options. Participating area businesses (in all industries) and community organizations help strengthen the local economy by connecting youth to meaningful work experiences. The execution of this effort is done in conjunction with the Yellowstone County Summer Jobs Program (SJP) Committee made up of BSED, the Billings Chamber of Commerce NextGEN, School District 2, Reach Higher Montana, with the support of American Jobs for American Youth (AJAY) Montana.
