Luther's "Here I Stand"

Strong Tower Radio's Reformation Month capstone is Max McLean’s "Here I Stand," a dramatic vocal performance of Martin Luther’s definitive speech at the 1521 Diet of Worms. Produced by the Fellowship for Performing Arts (FPA)—the theater company McLean founded to produce art from a Christian worldview—the presentation focuses on the exact moment Luther refused to recant his writings before the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.

Here I Stand is Martin Luther's historic speech delivered word-for-word with intense narration. It is the defense that ultimately launched the Protestant Reformation. McLean captures the weight, conviction, and emotional tension of a lone monk standing trial against the highest authorities of the Catholic Church and the Empire.

The program explicitly frames the speech as the defense of Sola Scriptura (by Scripture alone), emphasizing Luther's declaration that his conscience was "captive to the Word of God."

Here I Stand airs this Saturday at 6 am and again at 6 pm on STR stations, STR apps, and online at STR.fm.

Disney Release Normalizes Occult

Strong Tower Radio interviewed Little Light Studios' Scotty Mayer, regarding the Thanksgiving week Disney animated film release that he labels "explicit depiction, normalization, and promotion of witchcraft and the occult to young audiences."

Here are Little Light Studio's concerns:

  • The Normalization of Witchcraft: The film follows a teenage girl, Billie Doe, who accidentally unleashes her magical abilities and travels to a vast witch realm called "Hexe." Little Light Studios and associated contributors (such as former psychic Jenn Nizza) argue that presenting witchcraft as a harmless, positive tool for "self-discovery" or overcoming high school misfit archetypes desensitizes children to actual occult practices.

  • Targeting Impressionable Minds: They express deep concern that Disney is framing a deep dive into sorcery and spiritual realms as a mainstream, "magical coming-of-age" family film, making it highly appealing yet spiritually deceptive to young viewers.

Little Light Studios, as a ministry focused on evaluating media through a biblical lens, warns religious parents that the film's themes are spiritually unsafe and spiritually compromising for impressionable children.

Hear this interview Sunday at 3:30 am, Monday at 4 pm, Wednesday at 9 pm, and again on Thursday at 1 pm only on STR stations, STR apps, and online at STR.fm.

Attention Always “Gets Paid”

I went with several friends to the eastern Upper Peninsula to enjoy the beauty and recreational value of winter. Snowshoe hiking was our chosen activity, and one of our day trips took us to Fiborn Quarry, a few miles west of Trout Lake, MI. We hiked the 1.5-mile trail to the quarry site, a 40-foot-deep crater about ¼ mile across, with 15-foot-tall trees sprinkled around its floor and 3 feet of snow. Add periods of 30 mph winds and blowing snow, and you get the picture – it was great!

We hiked around the rim, then found a slope to slide down to view the quarry ruins. Limestone used in smelting iron ore into steel was once mined here, loaded into railcars, and shipped to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. The business was profitable for over 30 years, then carbide slag, a new industrial waste product, replaced much of the limestone used for smelting, and the mine closed along with the small adjacent town.

You’ve heard the statement “pay attention” a few times in life, perhaps even directed toward you. Mr. Attention always gets paid, the question is by whom. Fiborn Quarry owners were not attentive to technological advances, or to developing alternative uses for the material they mined. They might have learned to use limestone for architectural purposes, but they paid Mr. Attention, and the price was Fiborn Quarry.

Such is the risk that we each confront in daily life, though unnoticed at times. If our minds are not set toward God’s will for our lives in prayer, if His written Word is not our active, daily guide, we will be surprised by Jesus’ return! Our life will be the price that we pay for not being attentive to God’s many calls for us to follow Him into life everlasting. We’ll call for the rocks to cover us and hide us from Jesus’ face. While Jesus takes His faithful children home to heaven, those who were inattentive to His frequent pleadings will be left on a desolate Earth, a larger version of those Fiborn Quarry ruins.

Day by day, the Holy Spirit pleads with humanity. One vital way is through the Strong Tower Radio's broadcasting! Enjoy this Canadian listener statement, “I’m a Seventh-day Adventist today because of your broadcast.” Praise God! Another life being transformed by the Holy Spirit through the tool of Strong Tower Radio! As your prayers ascend to heaven on behalf of STR listeners, and your regular financial gifts keep this ministry operating and growing, I thank you for being so attentive to proclaiming the everlasting gospel as Jesus has instructed. Our attentiveness now will help us avoid “paying attention” too late at the very end. Maranatha!
