Edmonton property owners can expect to see their 2021 property tax notices in mailboxes shortly. More than 400,000 notices will be mailed today. Paperless subscribers will see their notice posted online at
myproperty.edmonton.ca.
The payment deadline is June 30. This year, to help property owners affected by COVID-19, the City is waiving the normal two per cent administration fee to sign up for the tax monthly payment plan. If property owners sign up before June 30, they can spread their tax payments out over the rest of the year while avoiding the July 1 non-payment penalty.
“Given we’re still feeling the effects of COVID-19, we’re trying to make it easier for property owners who would like to pay monthly,” said Cate Watt, Branch Manager, Assessment & Taxation. “The monthly payment plan ensures stable cash flow for the City and allows property owners to put property tax payments into their monthly budget; it also ensures they won’t have to worry about any payment deadlines.”
This year, just over $2.2 billion in property taxes will be collected by the City, $482 million of which is collected on behalf of the Government of Alberta to fund education. For the first time in over two decades, the City achieved a zero per cent overall tax increase in 2021.
A typical single-family home, assessed at $380,500, will pay $3,648 in property taxes this year. Of that, 73 per cent or $2,667 will help pay for municipal programs and services, and 27 per cent or $981 will go to fund Alberta’s education.
Property owners have a range of ways to pay. Payment can be made at most financial institutions, by telephone or online banking and by mail. To protect everyone’s health and safety, in-person payments at the Edmonton Service Centre are not available. More information on payment options is included with every tax notice.
Property owners who do not receive their tax notice by June 7 can visit
