2022 property tax notices in the mail
May 25, 2022

Edmonton property owners can expect to see their 2022 property tax notices in mailboxes soon, as over 400,000 notices were sent out yesterday. Paperless subscribers will see their notices posted online at myproperty.edmonton.ca.

Property owners who do not receive their property tax notice by June 3 should contact 311.

The payment deadline is June 30, 2022. This year, just under $2.3 billion in property taxes will be collected by the City, $496 million of which is collected on behalf of the Government of Alberta to fund provincial education.

“Property taxes are a very important source of revenue for the City of Edmonton,” said Cate Watt, Branch Manager, Assessment and Taxation. “Municipal property taxes support essential services such as police, fire rescue, roadway maintenance and public transit. This year, Edmonton had the lowest tax increase among major Canadian cities, keeping Edmonton affordable for property owners while still providing appropriate levels of service.”

The 1.9 per cent municipal tax increase will affect property owners differently, depending on how their property’s assessed value changed compared to the market. On average, property owners can expect an increase of $14 for every $100,000 in assessed property value. A typical single-family home, assessed at $402,000, will pay $3,774 in property taxes this year. Roughly 74 per cent or $2,777 will help pay for municipal programs and services and 26 per cent or $997 will go directly to the Government of Alberta’s education fund.

Property owners have a variety of ways to pay. Payment can be made at most banks, by phone or online banking, and by mail. The City also offers a monthly payment plan. More information on payment options is included on every tax notice.

When making a payment, property owners can review their balance at myproperty.edmonton.ca. Users can access account balances, view their notice online, sign up for e-notices, request a monthly payment plan application and confirm their payment has been received. New users can use the access code found on their latest notice to sign up.
