Edmonton City Council has appointed Adam Laughlin to become the Interim City Manager, effective December 28, 2019. Adam assumes the position as current City Manager Linda Cochrane retires. He will be responsible for leading more than 14,000 employees who deliver hundreds of City programs and services to Edmontonians through 73 lines of business.
“Adam has shown leadership on a number of significant City infrastructure projects, including the now-iconic Walterdale Bridge, in his role as Deputy City Manager of the Integrated Infrastructure Services department,” said Mayor Iveson. “Most recently, Adam has been the Acting Deputy City Manager of the Financial and Corporate Services department, and was responsible for putting forth options to City Council that allowed us to have productive discussions on managing City programs and services within a challenging fiscal reality.”
A professional engineer, Adam joined the City in 2005 and has held a number of senior leadership roles. He has worked in Transportation Planning, where he led the development of concept plans for a number of transportation projects including the Southeast, West and Northwest LRT projects, and Neighbourhood Renewal, which addressed the reconstruction needs of the more than 300 neighbourhoods in Edmonton. Prior to joining the City, Adam worked in the private sector in construction management and design and was part of the Southwest Anthony Henday Drive engineering team.
A committee of City Council is actively recruiting a permanent City Manager, who should be in place some time in 2020.
