The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) – Edmonton Region gave the City of Edmonton’s Blatchford community top marks at its 2023 Awards of Excellence in Housing gala on March 18, 2023. Blatchford was named the winner in the Best New Community category, which recognizes a residential development for its innovative concepts of land use, while also evaluating its current and future amenities and environmental initiatives.
“Building a community doesn’t happen overnight, but when the efforts of many come together with a shared vision, the possibilities are endless. Winning the award for Best New Community is a testament to teamwork, collaboration and continued commitment to City Council’s vision for Blatchford,” said Tom Lumsden, Blatchford’s Development Manager. “Blatchford is being custom designed to prioritize connected streets, vibrant public spaces, active transportation and renewable energy, which make it a great place to live and contribute to a more resilient future.”
Blatchford is an ambitious land development project spanning 536 acres in the heart of Edmonton. The community reduces the city’s ecological footprint by being carbon neutral and solely using renewable energy, aligning with
The City Plan’s strategic goal of climate resilience. Blatchford also aligns with the plan’s goals of building a healthy city and creating vibrant urban places.
The CHBA recently recognized Blatchford on the national stage. The community won the Best New Community award at the National Awards for Housing Excellence on February 16, 2023.
