City EV & Hydrogen Expo wins Educational Achievement Award
June 13, 2023

The City of Edmonton, in partnership with Empower Me and the Electric Vehicle Association of Alberta, is proud to announce the shared 2023 Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Technical Achievement Award for the innovative Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle Expo held last September at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

The Electric and Hydrogen Vehicle Expo was a free two-day public event, attended by nearly 6,000 residents, that gave Edmontonians an opportunity to learn about and experience zero-emission vehicles. Reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and transitioning to alternative modes of transportation is crucial to the City meeting its aggressive goal of being a net zero GHG emitter by 2050.

This innovative event offered an accessible, inclusive and immersive educational experience in a comfortable environment. It featured interactive exhibitor booths, electric and hydrogen buses, an education stage, electric vehicle test drives, a micro-mobility test track and a family zone activity area. Attendees were exposed to new and emerging technologies, heard from industry experts, learned about emerging career paths and spoke with local electric vehicle owners about their experiences.

The City collaborated with many organizations to make this Expo possible including ATCO, EPCOR, the Electric Vehicle Association of Alberta and Kambo Energy Group’s Empower Me program who held 14 multilingual and multicultural “EV 101” workshops before and after the Expo and provided translation services at the Expo. The Expo featured 40 exhibitors, 20 speakers and attracted nearly 6,000 participants.

Each year, TAC recognizes member organizations with its Technical Achievement Awards that shine a spotlight on exceptional innovations, project outcomes and lessons learned.
