Citywide parking ban on residential roadways takes effect Tuesday, January 7 at 7 a.m.

January 3, 2025

A Phase 2 parking ban for residential roadways will begin on Tuesday, January 7, at 7 a.m. as snow clearing operations will continue into residential neighbourhoods.

“Crews will be clearing residential roadways in neighbourhoods throughout the City and it is imperative residents remove their vehicles to allow crews to safely and effectively clear the snow and ice,” said Val Dacyk, General Supervisor of Infrastructure Field Operations, Parks and Roads Services. ”Crews will address the rutted and uneven conditions while maintaining a five centimetre snow pack on the roadways.”

Crews will be active in residential neighbourhoods Monday through Friday, 24 hours a day. The parking ban will be lifted on weekends. Under a Phase 2 parking ban, vehicles parked on residential roadways in neighbourhoods may be ticketed at the owner's expense.

The parking ban is expected to last around 10 days, depending on weather. Individual neighbourhoods will be affected for approximately 72 hours at a time. Once a neighbourhood is confirmed completed, residents may return to parking on roadways in that neighbourhood.

Residents should watch for signage at entrances to their neighbourhood which indicate when their roadways are scheduled. Residents can view the Roadways Snow Clearing Map to confirm where crews are operating, which roadways have been completed and view the schedule. When signage is present, or a road is listed as “In Progress” on the interactive map, crews will be active in the area within 72 hours and all vehicles must be removed from the road.

Residents can subscribe to Service Notifications and receive email or text messages specific to their address. Notifications are sent as roadways are scheduled, in-progress and completed.

During the Phase 2 parking ban, residents can continue to park in their driveway or garage, or on any road already completed where parking is allowed normally.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe distance from clearing vehicles to ensure snow and ice clearing crews can safely work as they work to get the roads cleared.
