DATS is now Dedicated Accessible Transit Service
December 3, 2021

DATS is modernizing its service through an important language update to meet modern standards and the needs and expectations of riders. DATS, now updated to Dedicated Accessible Transit Service, is more inclusive and reflects the diverse individuals who rely on this vital service. The updated language does not change the service, brand or operations of DATS and riders can continue to use the service as they always have.

“Updating the language demonstrates a modern and informed understanding of and our commitment to the current and future DATS ridership”, said Paul Schmold, Manager of Paratransit Services, City of Edmonton. “It’s about listening and acting on community and stakeholder feedback, along with the integral input and expertise of the DATS Advisory Group, in ensuring our services accurately reflect our commitment to providing equitable and inclusive transportation options for our riders.”

Today also marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Celebrated on December 3rd around the world, this day mobilizes support for inclusion of persons with disabilities, promotes awareness about disability issues and the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all.

DATS, the City’s paratransit service, provides door-to-door shared ride transportation for riders who are unable to use conventional public transit. DATS currently provides opportunities for more than 10,000 riders, connecting them to others, their communities and the places they need to go. All riders must be registered with DATS before booking trips.
