Edmontonians invited to watch Swearing-In ceremony online
October 25, 2021

The City of Edmonton invites Edmontonians to virtually join City Council’s Swearing-In ceremony on Tuesday, October 26 at 1:30 p.m. The livestream will be hosted on the City’s YouTube channel.

“Tomorrow will be an incredibly exciting day and I’m hoping I can share it with all Edmontonians,” said Mayor-elect Amarjeet Sohi. “Although in-person attendance is limited, the broadcasted ceremony will give all viewers the opportunity to meet Edmonton’s new and returning members of City Council.”

The Swearing-In will continue in its traditions of pomp and ceremony, featuring special presentations and a formal inauguration of the newly-elected mayor and 12 City councillors. This year’s event will be scaled back to align with all public health orders, including masking and physical distancing requirements.

The City of Edmonton remains steadfast in its commitment to the health and safety of Edmontonians, and the City is pleased to offer a viewing option that is flexible and convenient for Edmontonians.

The Stanley A. Milner Library will be projecting the livestream on “The Wall” — its two storey interactive digital wall on the main floor, should people not have easy access to the internet.

City Council’s Swearing-In ceremony marks the beginning of a new term for the 13 elected representatives. Mayor-elect Sohi, eight new councillors and four returning Council members will enter Council Chamber after they are sworn in for the inaugural Council meeting for the 2021-2025 term.
