With generous assistance from the BC Air Access Program (BCAAP), the Town has secured funding to replace its aging Aviation Gas fuel system, ensuring safer operations and expanding storage capacity to meet the growing needs of the aviation community.
The new storage system and dispensing unit will feature an above-ground double-walled containment tank, designed to provide a safe and reliable storage solution that mitigates the risk of leakage, and potential environmental damage. The need for a new system became increasingly urgent when the current dispensing system became problematic. The current capacity is also undersized to meet the demand, which has tripled since its installation 40 years earlier.
The Town gratefully received $289,294 in funding from B.C. Air Access Program (BCAAP) to help cover the $340,346 cost of replacement for the fuel storage system and dispensing unit.
Aviation fuel plays a pivotal role in supporting a range of critical operations at Qualicum Beach Airport. Not only does it serve locally based scheduled airlines, but it also caters to a growing number of regular users, wildfire support, and medevac backup services. As the aviation industry continues to expand, it is increasingly important to ensure a reliable and efficient fuel supply for the region.
