Rochester, NY–June 20, 2022–The CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival 19th edition wrapped up the first weekend with grateful audiences and incredible music indoors and out. The festival continues today through Saturday, June 25 in downtown Rochester, NY.

Starting today: Jazz Workshops and Jazz Starts at Library at Noon.

More than 1750 musicians are coming from around the world to play. A record 130 shows are free this year including the entire headliner seriesJam sessions close out the festival nightly at the Hyatt Regency Rochester, where you never know who will show up to play. And Jazz Workshops provide a unique opportunity for music students of all ages to learn from visiting artists performing at the festival.

Over the last 40+ years, Spyro Gyra has performed over five thousand shows, released thirty-one albums (not counting “Best Of…” compilations) selling over ten million albums while also achieving one platinum and two gold albums. Although few acts have accomplished this type of record, they have done it by constantly challenging themselves as is evidenced by their last studio release “The Rhinebeck Sessions” which was written and recorded over three days in the studio. For years, Tivon Pennicott has been transporting audiences and listeners to a higher level of consciousness. Mike is a Juilliard and Eastman School graduate from Rochester, NY. He attended the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz led by legends Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter and has performed and recorded with Al Jarreau, Haley Reinhart, Casey Abrams, Laura Dickenson, Neil Diamond, Ruben Blades, Mike Garson, Ulysses Owens Jr, and Don Henley and many more. In accordance with Monroe County public health official recommendations and the University of Rochester for Kilbourn Hall, Hatch Hall, Max of Eastman Place, and Ray Wright Room 120, face masks are optional. Proof of vaccination is not required. Please see the full guidelines here.

Masks are available courtesy of Rochester Regional Health at the First Aid Tent on Gibbs Street (5-9 PM daily) and at Kilbourn Hall, Hatch Hall, Max, and the Jazz Workshops.
