The City of Edmonton and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart) are proud to announce the grand opening of a Jumpstart Inclusive Playground at the Clareview Recreation Centre, designed to be universally accessible so that kids of all abilities can participate in the magic of play.
“This partnership with the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Foundation helps create spaces where communities can gather and spend time together,” said Mayor Amarjeet Sohi. “Access is one of the key pillars of Edmonton’s City Plan, and this project helps to ensure that children of all abilities have access to a space where they can all play together.”
Clareview District Park, located in Northeast Edmonton and accessible by LRT, is a community hub bringing people together to enjoy sport, recreation, social and cultural activities. This inclusive playground will be an exciting addition to the multi-purpose recreation centre and sports fields.
Construction of the Jumpstart Inclusive Playground was completed on-time and on-budget in October 2020 and was made possible by funding contributions from the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities ($1 million in-kind) and the City of Edmonton ($870,000).
Through collaboration with Jumpstart and thanks to the generosity of local Canadian Tire Dealers Doug Waldie, Gerry Feist, Darren Gunn, Jim Gamble, James Boccioletti, Daniel Picard, Steve Laurion, and Steven K. Lee, local kids of all abilities can play together side-by-side, fostering a stronger, more inclusive and healthier community.
