Edmontonians excited to tap into an innovative funding program for clean energy retrofits will be able to do so once again, but don’t strap the tool-belt on just yet.
On August 22, the Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) pilot will reopen to allow up to 52 additional Edmonton homes to participate.
“We are acting on feedback we received from residents when the pilot launched in March of last year by announcing the reopening early to allow people interested in applying time to prepare,” said Barbara Daly, CEIP Program Manager.
The CEIP provides residents access to low-cost financing to make a minimum of three energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades to residential homes. Financing is repaid over a period of up to 20 years through property taxes and is transferable should the home be sold.
“Edmontonians are passionate about climate resilience and have been clear that they want a role in helping to meet our environmental objectives by reducing the carbon output of their homes. Programs like CEIP are an important part of being able to participate,” said Kim Petrin, Acting Deputy City Manager of Urban Planning and Environment.
The CEIP is administered through Alberta Municipalities and aims to advance efforts to improve environmental resiliency as part of Edmonton’s Community Energy Transition Strategy and Action Plan.
Residential pre-qualification forms will be available August 22, 2023. The City of Edmonton and Alberta Municipalities will host two online informational webinars for those interested in participating in CEIP on August 9, 2023 from 7 - 8 p.m. and August 10 from 12 - 1p.m. Interested homeowners are encouraged to visit

This tranche of funding allows the CEIP to complete its two-year pilot. A multi-year Edmonton CEIP for both residential and commercial properties is being developed. Residential applicants who are unable to participate during this intake will be considered for future intakes when they occur.
The Commercial CEIP is now closed to new applications.
