New vehicle and pedestrian crossings enhance neighbourhood development near Stadium Station
October 17, 2019

The Stadium Yards, a Transit-Oriented Development under construction near Stadium Station, will enjoy improved access to transit services and neighbourhood amenities with the opening of a new road and pedestrian crossing over the LRT tracks.

The road, Muttart Crossing, crosses the LRT tracks just south of Stadium Station and will provide a direct connection between Stadium Road and 84 Street. The pedestrian crossing brings an at-grade accessible entrance to Stadium Station from the east for passengers.

The two new crossings will provide access to neighbourhood amenities like Commonwealth Stadium and Recreation Centre, the Stadium LRT Station and the River Valley. Both crossings are controlled by gate arms and signals to ensure safety.

“Transit-oriented developments like the Stadium Yards are designed to be highly accessible, convenient and walkable for their residents,” said Erik Backstrom, a Senior Planner with the City’s Planning Initiatives Unit. “They also benefit all Edmontonians by making efficient use of existing infrastructure and transportation services while reducing air pollution and energy use.”

The new crossings are part of infrastructure enhancements in the vicinity of Stadium station that also include a shared-use path from 92 Street to 112 Avenue, two new plaza parks south of Stadium Station on 84 and 85 Street, an extension of 106A Avenue and streetscape improvements along 84 and 85 Streets.

The stadium infrastructure improvements were funded through a $14.1 million capital profile allocated by City Council in 2014.
