The City of Edmonton has declared a Phase 1 parking ban on March 4, at 11:59 p.m. The parking ban will last for approximately 72 hours and only includes Phase 1 roads.
“While spring is around the corner, winter has not quite left us yet and enough snow has fallen over the last 24 hours that we ask residents to move their vehicles from the city's main roads to allow us to clear the snow,” said Andrew Grant, General Supervisor of Infrastructure Operations, Parks and Roads Services. ”The Phase 1 parking ban will ensure we can keep Edmontonians moving on our major roadways.”
During Phase 1, crews clear arterial roads, collector roads, bus routes (roads marked with seasonal no parking signage), and roads within business improvement areas. Parking will be prohibited in these areas, however, people may continue to park on residential streets. Edmontonians are reminded that parking is also allowed on roads as soon as they have been cleared, as long as parking is allowed there normally.
Please note, EPark zones are not active during Phase 1 of the parking ban while these areas are cleared.
Vehicles parked on Phase 1 parking ban routes after 11:59 p.m. on March 4, may be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense. Crews and equipment will be working 24 hours a day until Phase 1 roads are clear.
The City does not anticipate it will call a Phase 2 parking ban for this snow event.
Motorists are advised to drive to conditions and maintain a safe following distance between vehicles. Give snow and ice clearing crews room to work as they work to get the roads cleared.
