The Town of Qualicum Beach will recognize National Public Works Week from May 15 to 21, held annually to recognize the work of public works/parks professionals. To celebrate, the Town will host a public works open house on Thursday, May 19 from 12:30 pm to 3 pm at our Public Works Yard located at 233 Fern Road East.

There will be equipment on display, and our knowledgeable staff from our Public Works, Parks and Facilities departments will be on-site to answer any questions. The Qualicum Beach Volunteer Fire Department will also be available to answer any questions about the department and becoming a volunteer firefighter. There is no fee to participate in the Open House.

Our staff are devoted to producing and sustaining the Town’s infrastructure and help keep our community strong by providing many services such as clean drinking water, stormwater treatment, maintenance of public buildings and spaces, safe roads and sidewalks, street lighting and traffic signals, snow removal, fire hydrant maintenance, fleet services, airport operations, and the beautification of the Town through parks and trails, floral displays, irrigation installation and maintenance, and horticulture and arborist services. All services which affect our daily lives.

The third week in May has been celebrated as National Public Works Week since 1960. Municipalities across Canada use this week to educate, engage and inform the public about the essential role of Public Works in the quality of life of the community. For the past two years, Town staff have successfully navigated their essential roles through the pandemic, maintaining daily operations which improve the quality of life and safety of Town residents, and make our Town the best place to live!

We are proud to highlight the Town’s services provided by public works and parks staff and hope this Open House will increase awareness of the work necessary to maintain Town infrastructure and services. In addition, this event will provide an opportunity to promote public works/parks as a career choice.

We look forward to hosting the general public, students and visitors at our Public Works Week Open House on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 12:30 pm to 3 pm in the Public Works Yard located at 233 Fern Road East.
