Edmonton Fire Rescue Services calls on community-minded individuals to join its ranks and begin an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in the fire service. Applications to become an Edmonton firefighter are now accepted until January 31.

“Every day is different in the fire service and each day is a chance to make an impact,” said David Lazenby, Fire Chief. “Our fire service has a proud tradition of serving Edmonton and we are looking for compassionate and dedicated people who want to get involved. From fire suppression and medical support to community engagement and safety education, each day is an opportunity to make a difference in your community and the lives of your neighbours.”

After applying, individuals will participate in a recruitment process that evaluates their suitability for the role. This testing offers valuable insights into an applicant’s unique skills, abilities, career background(s) and lived experiences.

A timeline of the firefighter recruitment process is depicted over the span of winter, spring, summer, and fall. A detailed breakdown of the process is available at joinEFRS.ca.

“Each year we look to become more reflective of the community we serve,” said Graeme McAlister, Acting Deputy Fire Chief. “Although physical fitness is a primary requirement as a firefighter, so are the abilities to communicate, show empathy and compassion, solve problems, be resilient and be a team player. If you’re community-minded, we want you to consider Edmonton Fire Rescue Services as a career.”

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services is committed to protecting life, property and the environment by serving Edmontonians 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Edmonton’s fire service is devoted to ensuring its members are equipped and prepared to do so by ensuring the skills, training, knowledge, equipment and supports are provided throughout their career.
