Marigold Infrastructure crews will begin work overnight tonight, January 18, (8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.) to install bridge girders (large beams used to support the bridge deck) for the new Anthony Henday Drive LRT Bridge at 87 Avenue.
In total, 10 girders will be installed overnight from Thursday, January 18 to Sunday, January 21.
Summary of Traffic Impacts
- To accommodate this work, motorists can expect lane reductions and speed reductions within the work area on Anthony Henday Drive near the exit ramps at 87 Avenue.
- These lanes will be secured and re-opened at the end of each overnight shift.
- Pedestrian access across Anthony Henday Drive will be maintained on the existing bridge.

“While the construction requires some traffic adjustments, we’re minimizing disruption by completing work overnight and keeping traffic flowing,” said Brad Baumle, Construction Manager, Marigold Infrastructure Partners, the company building Valley Line West. “I’m proud of the team we've assembled, and we’re excited to complete this important link in the Valley Line West LRT.”
Once the girders are installed, additional work will begin on the girders requiring overnight single-lane closures on Anthony Henday Drive. This work will take approximately one month to complete.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while this important work is completed,” said Po Sun, Acting Director, Valley Line. “Once Valley Line West is complete, it will help move more people along key transportation corridors. Expanding our public transit network will help minimize traffic congestion over the coming decades as Edmonton grows into a city of two million.”
The Anthony Henday Drive LRT bridge, one of two new bridges being built for Valley Line West, will connect West Edmonton to Lewis Farms. The other new bridge will cross Groat Road at Stony Plain Road. Light rail vehicles (LRVs) will share the Stony Plain Road Bridge with motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. The new bridge over Anthony Henday Drive will be dedicated solely to Valley Line LRVs.
