Grant provides books for summer reading prizes for youth!

Fredericksburg, Virginia -- 03/18/26 -- Central Rappahannock Regional Library has been awarded a $6,000 grant from The Robert Cullen O’Neill Memorial Fund of The Community Foundation to purchase the popular book prizes needed for the youth Summer Reading program. Upon reaching the 1,000- and 2,000-minute marks, readers are eligible to select a complimentary book prize. In 2025, participating children and teens reached incredible heights, earning 2,167 books for milestone achievements. This generous grant will directly support the Library in sustaining these rewards and fostering a love of reading.

The youth Summer Reading program has been an important Central Rappahannock Regional Library initiative for over 40 years. By engaging readers with dynamic events and reading challenges, the Library actively works to increase child and teen literacy and combat the summertime loss of academic skills known as “summer slide.”
