MORENO VALLEY, CA (October 7, 2021) -- As the City of Moreno Valley continues to mourn the loss of Mayor Pro Tem Victoria Baca, Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez, the City Council and City Staff have set up a special memorial to honor the Council Member, who passed away on October 6 after battling a long illness.
The memorial features a framed photograph of Mayor Pro Tem Baca and a custom floral arrangement surrounding the City Seal at Moreno Valley City Hall. Friends, family members, colleagues, and residents are welcome to visit the memorial to leave flowers or pay respects. The memorial is located at 14177 Frederick Street, and will be available to mourners at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until Monday, October 11.
"Laying flowers upon Mayor Pro Tem Baca's memorial was one of the hardest things I've had to do, but it is important that we honor her service and dedication to the Moreno Valley community," said Mayor Gutierrez. "It has been difficult to have to say goodbye to such a dear friend and great colleague."
Mayor Pro Tem Baca made history in 2012 as the first Latina elected to the Moreno Valley City Council. A year later, she was voted by her fellow Council Members to be Mayor Pro Tem and was re-elected to represent District 1 in 2016 and 2020.
