On August 24, 2019, locals will recreate the historic nine-mile trek from the San Gabriel Mission to El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument to commemorate the City of Los Angeles’ 238th birthday and to recognize San Gabriel as the birthplace of the Los Angeles region.
The “Celebrate Our Heritage Walk to L.A.” will begin
at 6:00 a.m. at the San Gabriel Mission located at 428 South Mission Drive
with a short program featuring San Gabriel City Councilmembers, a marimba musical group and a blessing by Father Alex Gaitan of the San Gabriel Mission.
Once walkers reach Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, they will participate in the Ceremonial Walk from Union Station to El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument at Olvera Street. From there, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy presentations, museums, restaurants and a jazz performance by legendary jazz artist Barbara Morrison & Jerzy ‘George’ Kossek.
