ASPA organize workshop on Integration of Authentication Solutions
ASPA & IPAMA organized workshop during Print Pack 2019
New Delhi, India - Authentication Solution Providers’ Association (ASPA) in association with Indian Printing Packaging and Allied Machinery Manufacturers Association (IPAMA) organized a technical seminar on Integration of Authentication Solutions: An Overview on 4 th February during recent Print Pack 2019 at India Expo Centre, Delhi NCR.

The aim of the seminar was to generate awareness among stakeholders about latest regulatory compliance, trends & innovation happenings in Anti-Counterfeiting industry across the globe.

The technical seminar was jointly inaugurated by Mr. U K Gupta, President, ASPA & Mr. Dayakar Reddy, President, IPAMA. He said, “As counterfeiting has become a menace, the key is the awareness. At ASPA, one of our main aims is to develop and strengthen industry’s capacity to combat product counterfeits through evidence-based research, education and outreach. Many of our brand-owner partners shared with us their hurdles in selecting & finding brand protection solutions. To help meet this need, we have been running the campaign “Make Sure India” across the country for brand owners and consumers, educating them about this serious issue. The problem in India is not limited to a few cities or regions, and henceforth, we have designed this campaign which will spread across the country.”

The seminar featured three speakers representing ASPA that ranged from physical anti-counterfeiting technologies, serialization, traceability and security inks and papers.

Chander S Jeena, Secretary, ASPA shared ASPA’s recent initiatives & latest trends in physical authentication technologies. He shared information on ASPA’s latest project “Counterfeit News Repository”, a unique repository which will provide a record of incidents of counterfeiting, theft and illegal diversion of products worldwide. He also shared various examples of innovation in Anti-Counterfeiting industry including irreversible holographic effect for medicine carton, NFC chip based Tamper Evident Label for medical Auto-injectors, high security holographic cap seal with digital authentication, use of special film on spot registration feature for carton packaging etc. etc and steps in developing Anti-counterfeiting strategy. The key message is to integrate physical anti-counterfeiting technologies with traceability technologies to make customized authentication solutions. According to him, the future will be Current Labelling integration with innovative authentication solutions will lead to Smart Packaging Solutions which will ensure efficient supply chain, revenue enhancement , consumer safety and loyalty towards products, brands and authorities.
Mr. Nakul Pasricha, Governing Body Member and CEO, PharmaSecure shared his views on recent regulations, benefits, application, challenges and implementation guidelines for serialization and traceability. He shared the details about European Union: Falsified Medicine Directives (EU-FMD) which is going into effect from February 9, 2019. The new directives required new safety features for #medicines sold in the EU: a unique identifier and an anti-tampering device on medicines packaging.
He shared information on the differences between bar-codes, QR codes and GS1 2D datamatrix codes. According to him, in the next few years, almost 75 percent of the global pharmaceutical industry will have some regulation on serialization and eventually all serialization will lead to traceability.
In the last speech, Mr. Gaurav Sathaye, Governing Body Member and CEO United Speciality Inks shared expert view on latest developments in security inks. He shared his views on brand psychology, functional overview of security technologies and need of collective work in securing value chain. He shared example of inks including reversible, irreversible thermochromix, UV inks, UV chromix, Fugitive visible / invisible , fluroscence, forensic, infra-red, aquachromix, intaglio, watermark, scratch off, iridescent, taggant, holographic, carbonising ink etc. etc. The crux of the presentation is that it is collective responsibility of all stakeholders to secure brand & value chain and designed solutions according to customer needs. Security Solutions have a complimentary and synergistic effect when combined with other Security Features such as Holograms / RFID/ Track-n-Trace/ etc to make a product much more secure.

The workshop was well attended by industry including representation from ASPA, ALPS and IPAMA members & others. This is the ongoing series of ASPA workshops planned for brand owners, Govt. authorities and industry professional involved in brand protection, revenue protection, supply chain management, quality and product packaging. It ended with a networking break and lunch.  The next workshop will be held in April 2019.
