September, 15 2017: Remembering the Angel Fire
Ten years ago today, the Angel Fire swept through Camp Stevens: from the mine near the highest point at camp to the Hills, lodges, and meadows below. I hope you'll join me in grieving what was lost that day and celebrating all that has come out of the ashes. Staff, volunteers, donors, and friends dedicated thousands of hours to rebuilding. Insurance claims were made, dead trees were felled, new trails were blazed, checks were written, and plans were drawn for new buildings to replace those burned.

Below you'll find photos of then and now and opportunities to join us in what's next. Whether you remember camp before the fire or have yet to visit this peaceful place apart, I hope you'll join us soon for an adventure of your own! Camp Stevens has been changing lives for 65 years in Julian; here's to another 65.

With gratitude,

Beth Bojarski, Executive Director

PRAY FOR CAMP
Collect for Camp Stevens

God of the oak and the pine, the woodpecker and the mountain lion, hear our prayers for Camp Stevens. Inspire those who live at, visit, and love this place. Keep us safe from fire and other danger; and help us as we seek our mission and yours: to be a people and a place of transformation and peace. Amen.

A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY
A note from Ian Williamson, Chair of the Camp Stevens' Development Committee
Ian and his son, Evan, at the ground breaking ceremony for Bergstrom Lodge.

Over the years of my work with the Development Committee at Camp Stevens, I was not surprised to see several particular supporters among a (highly confidential) list of major supporters. However, a few names on that list stuck out. I was frankly surprised to see my name there as we have never been able to give much at any given time. Instead, we have tried to be faithful in our support over 20 years. The story that sticks out to me most, though, is the donor who has given just $20 a month for nearly forty years. No one seems to know the story of how the gift started - but we do know that her gifts now exceed $20,000! You many not be able to imagine giving anyone a $20,000 gift, but I suspect that you could manage $20 a month. Please considering joining the faithful cadre of monthly donors - small gifts add up over time. Monthly gifts are easy to establish! Just visit the camp website and click on donate now at the top - or call the camp office (760/765-0028).

MEET OUR WINTER STAFF
Perhaps the most dynamic and integral element of Camp Stevens is our staff!
Please join us in welcoming this year's Winter Staff: Ian (Gator) Baretto, Sophia Beltran, Brad Kodak, Emma Simons-Araya, and Sidney Willson-Young. Next week, Otto Allen will be joining our maintenance team. Read more about each of these folks (and the rest of us!) here.

Interested in working at Camp Stevens? We're currently hiring a Kitchen Assistant and are always open to resumes for Winter Staff positions. Check out our website for more information!
