Hold On ~ Run On ~ Keep on Keeping On

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV)

I may be wrong, but I feel like I am part of a generation of Christians that could use some encouragement. I see the struggles congregations are going through. I know about the struggles

of ministers who feel exhaustion and burnout. It is because of these layers of struggle that I feel drawn toward words from Scripture that encourages encouragers.

My reading of the New Testament (if not the whole Bible) suggests that followers of Jesus (people of faith) are challenged to remain faithful (hold on/run on) while encouraging others to “keep on keeping on.” I’m left with some questions, though.

ALEX Reporting

Thank you to the twelve Mid-America congregations that have completed their Yearbook report during the first week of the open reporting period in our ALEX database! We are grateful that you've enabled us to have a more accurate picture of our Region for the past year's activity. Special thanks to our very first reporter this year - First Christian Church in Lathrop! Others were Friendship, Gower, Affton, Webster Groves, Slater, Olivet, and Perry Christian Churches, as well as the First Christian Churches of Cameron, Fayette, Sedalia, and Boonville. All congregations are asked to complete the report online by March 4. If any congregation doesn't know who their reporting representative is, please contact the St. Louis Regional office. There is also an online help center to help with other questions. Please make sure that your congregation reports as this data is vital for documenting our continuing ministries.

Dedicated Disciple Rev. M. Faye Vaughn

In our Update newsletter three weeks ago, we shared information about Rev. M. Faye Vaughn's recent installation as pastor of First Christian Church in Fulton, and linked to the local news story that was published highlighting her work. Since then, our Disciples New Service has started a feature piece to spotlight Dedicated Disciples, and they've chosen Rev. Vaughn as their first honoree! Read more>

Threads of Joy

Our Rural Ministry Network invites you, members, leaders, and pastors to a conversation about stitching together rural and small churches.

As Disciples, we are all at the same table, and together we want to encourage, equip, and connect Disciples of Christ churches in Mid-America as we grow in Christ. Join us for one of these free sessions in April. They are located all around the Region and a meal will be served at each. Learn more & register here>

Passing It On...

On Jan 15th the Slater Christian Church, which recently closed, gifted 25 Chalice Hymnals to the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Hermann MO. Pastor Andy Wilson and his wife (pictured here) met two members of the SCC and received the hymnals. They were very appreciative of this donation as well as some others they had received. SCC members were very pleased they were going to a good home/ church. Another set of 25 hymnals will be donated to the Federated Church of Arrow Rock.

Pastor Partners

A new group has been introduced out of Broadway Christian Church and Mid-Americans are welcome to participate. Pastor Partners is for clergy spouses and any other versions of what it looks like to be in partnership with someone in ministry work. The idea is to build community and support among individuals in this unique setting. The group meets virtually on the first Tuesday of every month from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Learn more and register>

Clergy Training Opportunities

Our ministry partners in the United Church of Christ have scheduled six training sessions for 2024 that will take place via Zoom. Three are Boundary Awareness training and three are Racial Justice & Equity training. Our Disciples clergy are most welcome to attend any of these sessions, which do fulfill our Regional requirement for such trainings every three years. Use the links above for more information and registration.
