Having caught one of the bugs that has been going around this week, I found myself with time to watch some movies. This has been one of those illnesses that didn't lend itself to reading, writing, or sitting upright for that matter, but now that I'm on the downhill side, I have resumed a bit of normalcy, even if I'm not in the office as a walking petri dish.
One of the movies I was able to watch was the recent, and critically acclaimed, "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri". As an upfront disclaimer, it is an R-rated movie, primarily for language and some violence, but it was not an offensive movie, either. I simply offer the caveat so that if you decide to rent it, you aren't surprised that I've recommended such a movie. I don't want to say too much about it or offer spoilers, so let me share the summary the filmmaker, Fox Searchlight Pictures, used to advertise the film:

ECW Scholarship |
|
A newly established scholarship fund created by the Christ Church Frederica Episcopal Church Women is being inaugurated this year.
Annually, the Christ Church Frederica ECW Scholarship Fund for Women will provide $2,500 to a female high school graduate pursuing a degree through an academic or technical college or university. The student must be of the Episcopal faith and hale from Glynn or McIntosh County.
"Many of our Christ Church women have, over the last fifteen years, donated to this wonderful effort to establish a scholarship program for our young ladies. The fruit of our gifts will now benefit many young women with their future educational goals. In establishing this scholarship we honor those who came before us and saw this as just a dream... but now it is a reality and we could not be more pleased," noted Jane Watson, President, Episcopal Church Women.
Applications may be accessed via the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation website here
and are due no later than April 21, 2018. Candidates will be screened and interviewed by a scholarship committee and the award will be made in May.

African Team Ministries |
|
African Team Ministries will have a
display
of beautiful crafts available for purchase this coming Sunday (April 22nd) in Christ Church Parish House. African Team Ministries is a Christian ministry working as an intermediary between African and American churches. They provide funding for orphan and refugee relief missions and evangelism in East Africa.
The support they receive is sent directly to partnering Bishops to provide school fees, tuition, books, and uniforms. This support ensures that the children receive an education and a measure of stability needed to rebuild their minds. Currently, there are children registered for sponsorship in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Your purchase of crafts and jewelry will help fund their education. For more information, visit africanteamministries.org.

Docents and Greeters Needed in Christ Church! |
|
Christ Church needs docents and greeters! As the team of volunteer docents has diminished over the last few months, due to illness and retirements, so have the number of days we are able to keep the church open to visitors.
Currently, we have a skeleton crew of volunteers to man the church Tuesday through Sunday in the afternoons. You can assist by volunteering to docent once a month from 2 to 5 pm. There is a training session before docents embark on this wonderful opportunity to share the remarkable story of our church. Contact: Fred Collins at [email protected] to become a docent.

Picnic at Honey Creek - May 20th |
|
The annual
Christ Church picnic
at Honey Creek camp and conference center will take place on Sunday, May 20th. All in the Christ Church family are encouraged to join in this time of reflection, reconnection and recreation. At 11:30 am we will have our Bluegrass Eucharist in the chapel, featuring
Marshgrass

Please bring your lawn chairs, softball equipment, lawn games and coolers of cold beverages to share. (For those unable to attend the picnic, Holy Eucharist will be offered at Christ Church at 8:00 and 9:15 am, and Morning Prayer will be said at 11:15 am.)
Please call the church office at 912-628-8683 and let us know if you are able to join us for the picnic!
