Congress is Considering Deep Medicaid Cuts — Make Your Voice Heard!

Medicaid plays a critical role in providing health insurance to kids with disabilities and children from families with low incomes. It helps many Texas kids go to the doctor, pay for medications, and get other support — including the therapies provided by Easterseals and other Early Childhood Intervention groups.

Unfortunately, Congressional leaders are currently drawing up plans to make deep cuts to Medicaid. Representative Tony Gonzales -- who represents Bexar County-- is one of a handful of GOP members who have spoken out against the cuts. That means he will be one of the key votes on this legislation — and Congressional leaders will be pushing him to vote for it.

Please contact Rep. Tony Gonzales this week to thank him for speaking out against Medicaid cuts and to urge him to vote no on Medicaid cuts. You can call his Washington, DC, office at (202) 225-4511 or San Antonio office at  (210) 806-9920 to deliver this simple message. You can also click here to email him— or to email your own member of Congress if you live outside his district.

Advocating for the needs of your child sometimes looks like letting elected officials know what those specific needs are and how their vote impacts families in their constituency. Who represents me?

HHSC ECI to Interview Random Sampling of Families

Monitors from the HHSC ECI, the program that oversees all of ECI in Texas, will be auditing our program from April 7-9, 2025. This is a standard audit that happens periodically with all contracted ECI providers.

As part of this process, they will be contacting a random sampling of about 10 enrolled families to ask a few questions over the phone.

Your participation is greatly appreciated and helps us improve our services.

Thank you for your cooperation!

If you have any questions please contact Linda Tapia, Executive Director of the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center by email: linda.tapia@easterseals-satx.org or by telephone at 210-614-3911.

Spotlight Story - Valentina Rosas

Valentina has been in ECI since she was 3 months old. We started with concerns or tightness in the lower extremities and feeding concerns. Kim, SLP and Luisa, OT, came on and did amazing work with our baby. Fast track a year later and we have added Marlene, EIS, to Valentina's case and it has been so awesome to see this team come together and push Valentina to succeed. Every week we get phone calls, videos, texts for updates. As parents, we couldn't be more thankful for how sweet and caring all three have been. Days Valentina has visits, she updates me (mom) on which therapist she saw and how she "played". We love to see how much she adores her ECI team and how excited she gets knowing she will get a visit from them throughout the week!

We Are Looking For Spotlight Stories for Upcoming Newsletters

Reminders

Holiday Closure

Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center will be closed Friday, April 18, 2025 in observance of the Easter holiday. Enjoy the time with your family and loved ones.

When to Cancel Therapy

The Metropolitan Health District has been made aware of possible measles exposures in the San Antonio Community.

Please take the following recommended actions:

  • Contact your healthcare provider if you believe you, or someone in your family, may have been exposed or are showing symptoms.
  • Monitor for symptoms such as fever or unexplained rash for 4 to 21 days after exposure.
  • Follow the advice of your healthcare provider on when to stay home from work, school, or other gatherings.
  • If your child has a fever of 100.0° or higher, please keep them home and cancel therapy until they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.

Telehealth is available at your discretion if your child is well enough for therapy, but experiencing symptoms where it's best to keep therapists from entering the home.

If your child is not well enough for any type of therapy, please cancel with your therapist. Remember, when we leave your home, we go to see other children and families.

Let's all work together to keep everyone as healthy as possible.
