2023 SPRING HOME & PATIO SHOW A HUGE SUCCESS!!

The SAHBA Spring 2023 Home & Patio Show was an outstanding event! A sold-out show with over 230 exhibitors participating, the weekend was full of products ranging from ceramics to large security doors. Thank you to all SAHBA Members who exhibited and those who volunteered to make "the best home show ever built" possible!

This show marked the first time since COVID-19 that the ballroom was opened back up for the public. The SAHBA Home Show staff is overjoyed this goal was accomplished and is motivated to continue to grow the home show. A special shoutout to Home Show Managers, Alex Zukowski and Courtney Kinion, for their Spring 2023 Home Show success.

Mark your calendars as the Fall 2023 Home & Garden Show will be quickly approaching October 6-8, 2023. Please contact alexandra@sahba.org if you are interested in learning more about promoting your business in the Fall Show.

ADVOCACY

SAHBA Works with Marana to Secure Improved Partial Lot Release Policy

At this week's SAHBA Tech Committee meeting, the Town of Marana rolled out a new policy to streamline the process for getting subdivision lots cleared for sale following completion of key infrastructure. The policy was the result of ongoing discussions with Marana officials. The new process will be similar to Pima County's and should be of benefit to builders and the Town. Special thanks to Dustin Ward and Jason Angell at the Town of Marana for their efforts and collaboration.

Builder Roundtable with Marana - April 25

Join us on Tuesday, April 25th at 8:00 AM to meet with officials from the Town of Marana Development Services Department. Joining us will be Director, Jason Angell and Chief Building Official, Dave Spurlock. The purpose of the meeting is to hear an update from the Town on issues of importance to builders and to ask questions your questions on issues impacting you. The meeting will be held at SAHBA but a link to participate virtually is available upon request. If you are interested in attending, please contact Jennifer Barroso at jennifer@sahba.org.

April Technical Committee Re-Cap

SAHBA’s April Technical Committee meeting brought in over 55 industry partners from an array of different agencies, companies, and municipalities. Jasmine Chan, Project Manager at the City of Tucson’s Planning & Development Services provided a detailed overview of Plan Tucson. Oro Valley’s Community & Economic Development Director, Paul Melcher, presented on his department’s goals and work plan for the next year, which included information on annexation strategy, planning for build-out, and discussions on subdivision code/regulations. There were also important updates provided by Southwest Gas, TEP, Tucson Planning and Development Services, and Pima County Development Services.

Water Committee Discusses Fed Proposal for Colorado River

This week, the Arizona Reconsultation Committee (ARC) met in Phoenix to get an update on the recently released Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS). The document outlines three alternatives to address near-term conditions on the Colorado River caused by declining levels in Lake Powell and Lake Mead. SAHBA President & CEO David Godlewski serves on the ARC which will play an important role collaborating with Co-Chairs Tom Buschatzke (Director, ADWR) and Brenda Burman (General Manager, Central Arizona Water Conservation District) as they evaluate the SEIS and negotiate with other Colorado River Basin States.

SAHBA Meets with Tucson City Manager

As part of SAHBA’s ongoing advocacy efforts, we meet periodically with leading government officials in Southern Arizona. SAHBA’s most recent meeting was with City Manager Mike Ortega at City Hall for a discussion on PDSD fee increases, UDC amendments, the search for a new Director of Planning & Development Services, release of assurances, and involvement in projects such as the Climate Change Action Plan and the Resilient Southwest Building Code Collaborative.

Marana State of the Town

SAHBA hosted a table at this year’s Marana State of the Town. The informative event, held at the Ritz Carlton at Dove Mountain, highlighted the Town of Marana’s successes and goals for the future. SAHBA was joined by several members, and representatives from the offices of Senator Mark Kelly, Supervisor Sharon Bronson, and Pima County Development Services. Please email jennifer@sahba.org to join us for our next Technical Committee meeting in May.

Outdoor Lighting Code Draft Released

The City and County are in the process of updating the Outdoor Lighting Code. A draft has recently been released and SAHBA is reviewing the document to gauge the potential impacts of our members and provide input as needed. Click here for a version of the Code. Contact Jennifer Barroso if you have any comments or questions at jennifer@sahba.org.

Tucson Advancing Code Change on Low Flow Water Fixtures

For months, the Tucson City Council has been considering several water conservation measures to address ongoing drought conditions effecting Southern Arizona. One of those proposals would require all new homes to use WaterSense 2.0 or equivalent fixtures. Draft language was recently shared with the Joint City/County Code Committee. SAHBA is actively working with the City to ensure the language appropriately helps conserve water but does not adversely effect builders. Click here to see the draft language.
