Rector's Ramblings

Below is an updated Rambling I wrote way back in 2013, as I reflected on a suicide bombing in Pakistan. I was not up to speed on the details of this weekend's attack Sunday morning with the hectic schedule at Christ Church for Easter Sunday. The Easter attacks in Sri Lanka were equally as shocking and disturbing as I began to learn about them. I hope that you will join me in praying for the victims and their families, for those whose hearts are filled with hatred, and for all those who are persecuted and martyred for their faith. Even in the face of horror and death (and perhaps because of) we raise our Easter Alleluias!  Along with our resurrection faith, we pray for peace and God's mercy. Tom+

"Are you willing to be drug out into the forest and shot for your faith in Jesus Christ?" Get your attention? Yeah, it got mine too. This was a question asked of the congregation assembled in our chapel one day when I was in seminary at Sewanee. We had occasional "scholars in residence" who would attend classes and participate liturgically in the life of the community. We bright-eyed, eager seminarians were not used to thinking about such things, so yes, the question got our attention. You could see people who tend to tune out during sermons (yes, clergy do it too) sit up straight in their seats to find out what in the world was going on.  READ MORE HERE

Worship

Easter

Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Worship began on Holy Saturday, as the fire was lit at sunset for the Easter Vigil at St. Ignatius. On Easter Sunday, the morning dawned with a beautiful sunrise, ushering in a glorious, cool day for celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Worshippers gathered in the churches and even at home, via live stream, to hear the Good News that Jesus is alive! Many thanks to all who worked so hard this year to make the Easter celebration so joyous, for so many. You may see many more photos from Easter here.
Holy Humor
Join us for Holy Humor this weekend and rejoice in the Good News of the Easter season! Worship times are 5:30 pm at St. Ignatius Chapel on Saturday, and 8:00, 9:15 and 11:15 am at Christ Church, Frederica on Sunday. (There is only one 9:15 am service this week in the church.)

Formation

Adult Sunday Morning Class
The Adult Sunday Morning Class  will meet this Sunday, April 28, and will resume its study of James Moore's book, God Was Here, and I Was Out to Lunch, which explores how it is possible to miss God's opportunities of grace because we are sometimes too caught up with the "business" of our lives.   For more information, please contact Bob at

Men's Study Group
The Men's Discussion Group meets on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am. They are currently reading Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others. Author Barbara Brown Taylor recounts her moving discoveries of finding the sacred in unexpected places, while teaching the world's religions to undergraduates in rural Georgia, revealing how God delights in confounding our expectations. For more information, please contact Te Turner at royteturner@gmail.com .

Parish People

Celebrating Our Friends at Christ Church
The Easter bunny arrived a little early last week, when James Mills Turner was born on Monday, April 15, at 8:01 am. Mills is the son of James and Mary Kathryn Turner and the first grandson of Ed and Lynn Turner. The family has had plenty to rejoice in this Easter! Little Mills and his parents even enjoyed Easter worship with us on Sunday morning, as they watched the 9:15 am service on Facebook.
Welcome to the world, Mills!

Stay Informed

Wish to Share Some Information?
If you have information you wish to share with the parish in the News You Can Use or the weekly wrappers, please contact Glenn Queener at glenn@ccfss.org. He will be overseeing church communications until May 12. After that date, you may resume sending your articles and information to Julie Hancock at julie@ccfssi.org. Thank you very much!

Christ Church and Realm
We're happy to announce that the church has recently completed the transition to a new database, called Realm. Realm is more than a database. It's a comprehensive online ministry tool designed for real time connection. It helps Christ Church connect with you and you connect with us. It also allows you to manage your personal information, (and who is allowed to see it), control your giving,  and keep in touch with the groups that matter to you. On Monday, April 29, we will send out an invitation to connect with Realm. For more information, please contact Glenn Queener at glenn@ccfssi.org.

Christ Church Gift Shop - Now Open!

Our new Christ Church Gift Shop, (inside the Parish House, across from the reception area), is now open on Sundays, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. Come browse the assortment of unique items available, including hand-made prayer beads and our new history book. We'll also be adding new and seasonal items each week, so come by and check out the inventory. If you would like to make a purchase, cash, checks and credit cards are acceptable.

Our goal is to eventually have the shop open on a regular basis on weekdays, as well as Sundays, so we're looking for volunteers to serve as shopkeepers. Training will be provided. If you're interested in helping with the shop, please contact Ellen Kuehm at 912-996-3392 or at  ekuehm@gmail.com

Memorial Gifts
From time to time we are asked if there are things the Church can use that might be given as a memorial for a loved one or in thanksgiving for a blessing. Below is a list of opportunities for giving memorials and who you might contact about them. This is a sort of wish list; things that would be nice to have, but aren't in the budget. If you would like to make a memorial gift, please speak with the listed contact so that they know to expect the gift and can instruct you how the gift can be made. Partial gifts towards an item are possible as well.

Current Memorial Opportunities:

Timpani Drum Set:  $4000 We would like a pair of timpani drums to bolster our music program and be available for regular use in our music program. Contact: Kathleen Turner at kathleen@ccfssi.org

Acolyte Robes: $1750 We are updating our acolyte ministry and their wardrobe. Each robe costs approximately $75 each. We need various sizes/lengths.  Contact: Mtr. Katie at katie@ccfssi.org

Sanctuary Chairs:  3 CHAIRS GIFTED - THANK YOU! We would like to add additional folding chairs in Christ Church in the choir area to replace the metal chairs.  Chairs are $200 each and are the same style used at the altar, dark wood with red pads. We hope to get 8, total. Contact: Kathleen Turner at kathleen@ccfssi.org

Giving Made Easy
