Join Us in Thanking Yvette Pederson and Ginger Kneup!

It is with mixed feelings we report that SAHBA Membership Development Director, Yvette Pederson and Executive Vice President, Ginger Kneup will be leaving SAHBA at month's end. Both will be greatly missed but they both have tremendous opportunities to pursue new professional endeavors where they can showcase their talents and abilities. While change can be difficult, your professional team at SAHBA will continue to provide you with excellent service and programs. We are looking forward to several important events in the near future including Turn the Tables (May 16) and hope to see you there.

In Memoriam: Passing of Nicole Cantalicio

SAHBA members, it is with deep sadness that we share the news with you of the passing of Nicole Cantalicio, Land Analyst at Lennar. Nicole was an active participant in SAHBA’s government affairs and public policy efforts. Her technical understanding of development, inspections and reviews and willingness to share with us and government officials helped advance sound policy. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and the Lennar team.

Power of Real Estate Firing on all Cylinders

The 2024 Power of Real Estate Summit is in the books. This year’s event proved, once again, that real estate drives our community. Attendees heard from industry experts on housing economics and buyer preferences; mixed use redevelopment; local market conditions and strategies to encourage affordable housing through zoning reform. It’s very clear that the Tucson region is poised to continue to see growth in the real estate sector but challenges, especially on the regulatory and policy front, must be carefully navigated. Organizations like SAHBA and TAR are tirelessly working with government officials to make the connection between what they do and the effect on housing supply and affordability. As our keynote speaker, M. Nolan Gray discussed, the dynamics of your housing market are a direct reflection of the policy environment you create. We see an opportunity to work with policymakers to foster an environment for our members to be successful and increase homeownership within our community. As a result, local government will also benefit from increased tax revenue, better roads, and new infrastructure. We would like to thank event sponsors and speakers for their support as well as the SAHBA members who attended the event.

ADVOCACY

SAHBA Joins Other Community and Industry Pros to Talk Housing/Economy

Recently, David Godlewski joined Mayor Romero, Tucson Economic Development Specialist Mike Czechowski, along with Valerie Lane and Lisa Bowers from Urban Infill Project (SAHBA members) at an event hosted by Cross Country Mortgage focused on the growth, affordability, housing, and job prospects in Tucson. Each was able to share their expertise and perspectives on addressing growth and prosperity for our community.

Governor Hobbs Signs Housing Bill

Governor Katie Hobbs signed a bipartisan housing bill on April 10, permitting cities with populations over 100,000 to convert up to 10% of commercial buildings into residential spaces without discretionary municipal review.

The meeting also delved into stormwater and environmental issues, with John Ward from Bowman discussing the Marana Drainage Manual and Pima County Regional Flood Control District’s Hydrologic Modeling Policy.
