Sponsor Highlight
MacDonald Miller – Platinum Chapter Sponsor
At MacDonald-Miller, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. We have implemented several steps to ensure a diverse internal workforce, including targeted recruitment at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), partnerships with the Black Engineers Association, and outreach to LGBTQ+ and women-focused organizations in trades and construction. Additionally, we engage in high school and technical training outreach to attract a diverse pool of candidates early on.
Since the Inclusion Council's inception in 2020, we have welcomed new members and set new goals to refine our initiatives. Our motto, "You Be You and Together We Can," underscores our belief that diverse perspectives drive success. The Inclusion Council focuses on three pillars: Community Outreach, Education and Retention, and Recruitment. Key initiatives include DEIB training for management, equitable recruiting and retention practices, and strong relationships with local organizations like SPIN and ANEW.

Mentorship Program
The Greater Seattle Chapter of IFMA Mentorship Program creates pathways to career success through the collaborative engagement between experienced and early career FM professionals.
In alignment with the greater strategy of the Greater Seattle Chapter of IFMA and Education Committee Charter, the Mentorship program serves as a member benefit, with shared value for both Mentors and Mentees. This program pairs Mentees with knowledgeable Mentors, providing tenured FM’s an opportunity to share their valuable knowledge to enhance the development of the next generation of industry professionals.
Participants also serve as IFMA Ambassadors, speaking to the benefits of a career in FM, IFMA credentials/programming, and connecting purpose with this line of work.
Interested in becoming a mentee or mentor? Visit https://www.ifmaseattle.org/mentorship-resources for more information!

Lunch & Learn: Call for Speakers
We are planning our Lunch & Learn series for 2026! Each month we will highlight one of IFMA’s Core Competencies and would like to hear from our members if you, or someone you know, would be interested in presenting!
Lunch & Learns are intended to educate members about Facility Management best practices, resources, case studies, or other presentations related to the core competency of the month. They are hosted on Fridays, towards the end of the month, at either the Smart Buildings Center in Seattle or Bates Technical College, South Campus in Tacoma. They are a great way to connect with our members and share FM knowledge in the community.
Please view this form to review the schedule and submit your interest or share with your colleagues!

2025 Washington Women in Trades Awards
Most of us know someone whose work rises above workplace same ole, same ole--someone who, because of their commitment and enthusiasm, makes everyone else's day just a bit better.
Many of these people don't get (or even expect) recognition for their contributions. But once a year, on an evening in November, Washington Women in Trades throws a party, tosses in a little glitz and honors these exemplary people. But we can't do that without you. And that means it's time to nominate YOUR person who's making a difference.
Categories include Tradeswoman of the Year, Instructor of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Apprenticeship Awards and more.
To inspire and help nominators (you), our Awards webpage offers lots of coaching--we want to make your process fun, painless and meaningful!
More info
Your deadline is Friday, September 26
Awards will be presented at the 17th Annual Dream Big Dinner on Saturday, November 1.

Energy Benchmarking Grace Period Ends September 1
More than 90% of owners have successfully complied with Seattle’s annual benchmarking requirement by reporting their 2024 data. Building owners have until Sept. 1, 2025, to achieve compliance before enforcement action is pursued. Notices of Violation will be issued to noncompliant buildings with fines in the amount of $2000 for buildings 20,000–49,999 square feet and $4000 for buildings 50,000 square feet or larger. If you are not sure if your building is compliant, review our static list of noncompliant buildings as of July 31, 2025.
Compliance status is updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and can be referenced by visiting the Seattle Benchmarking Compliance Portal where you can search for your building by entering the OSE Building ID, property name, or ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® username.
If you need help setting up a Portfolio Manager account, making updates to an existing account, or submitting an exemption for a vacant building, check out our detailed guidance on the Benchmarking Instructions page. If you need further help, sign up for one-on-one support, register for weekly office hours, or email your questions to energybenchmarking@seattle.gov

Facility Manager Journal Highlight:
Beyond Compliance
How global standards silently drive the future of sustainable business
By John E. Kelley
Read the full article here: https://fmj.ifma.org/beyond-compliance
In an increasingly interconnected world, standardization – consistency and quality assurance across areas such as goods and services, processes and protocols, regulations and reporting – is integral to efficiency and progress, ensuring safety, reliability, compatibility, transparency and accessibility. Often-overlooked standards silently shape everyday experiences, with their absence only noticed when things go wrong.
