Join the Smart Buildings Center for the 2026 Smart Buildings Exchange (SBX) to be held in downtown Seattle on November 9th & 10th, 2026! The conference theme, “Accelerating Performance at the Speed of Innovation,” reflects both the urgency of the moment and the opportunity in front of us. As technologies advance and pressures on the built environment intensify, buildings are being asked to do more: reduce costs, improve resilience, respond to grid needs, support occupant outcomes, and deliver stronger performance in an increasingly complex operating environment. SBX 2026 will create space not just for inspiration, but for debate, problem-solving, and clearer pathways to action.

At the event, attendees can expect to:

  • Discover proven strategies to reduce operating costs, improve building performance, and strengthen resilience
  • Hear about ways to prepare your buildings for an increasingly connected and electrified future
  • Learn about scalable solutions that reduce cost and risk
  • Gain insight into different financing pathways
  • Connect and network with building operators, owners, engineers, technology providers, utilities, policymakers, and energy professionals

Register to join us in Seattle on November 9th & 10th today!

IFMA members can receive 15% off registration by entering the code IFMASBX2026 at checkout.

A regional non-profit, Literacy Source, offers training in English language skills for employers of non-native speakers or incumbent workers developing their reading, writing, math, or digital literacy skills. The students serve in custodial, M&O, or other front-line positions and can benefit from improved literacy for reading signs, instructions for garbage handling, workplace safety, and some customer communication. The school is running programs at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Port of Seattle and would like to build on their work to serve additional employers in the 4-county area but at this stage is just looking to have a conversation about how other facilities handle this.

ENERGY BENCHMARKING

Confirm Your Compliance Status with the Compliance Look-Up Tool

You can now use the new Compliance Look-Up Tool to confirm your compliance status for reporting 2025 energy benchmarking data that was due on June 1, 2026.

Look up your building's Energy Benchmarking compliance status

Buildings that still need to report 2025 data must submit their data under the new compliance process in the Seattle Building & Energy Portal. The City of Seattle will reach out directly to non-compliant building owners to share instructions for getting started and resources to understand benchmarking process changes.

The Smart Buildings Center’s Clean Buildings Performance Standard Technical Assistance provides statewide benchmarking assistance, support, resources, and trainings to assist building owners in reaching compliance with the Clean Buildings Performance Standard.

The service is being sponsored and made possible by the Washington State Department of Commerce and participating utilities.
