Family Engagement

Our Halloween Trick-or-Treat and Sensory-Friendly Santa experiences brought together many families and volunteers in October and November. We are so thankful for Scholars and Athletes Serving Others (SASO), Great Hearts, the UTHSCSA Schools of Nursing, Pixel Potion Photography, Desiree Lambert, Aria Productions, Sonia Freeman, Jeff Huston, Ryan Chavez, the Easter Seals Board of Directors, the Easter Seals staff, and all the other volunteers who graciously shared their time and talents to make these events possible. We especially want to thank HEB as we could not put on these events without their generosity. The Family Engagement program was awarded a $5000 grant again this year.

We are so thankful for all the families who joined us! Please stay tuned for the next Family Engagement event in April.

Spotlight Story - Kaitlynn & Meilynn Lung

By Khristina Lung

Kaitlynn and Meilynn have been a part of Easter Seals since they were about six months old. They were born at 26 weeks and were in the NICU for over three months. Considering that my twins were extremely premature, I was worried about what life would look like once we brought our girls home where we wouldn't have the extra support that we have at the hospital. After 96 days, Kaite and Mei Mei were discharged and were finally able to come home.

The first few months, we were just surviving as a family with three kids under three years old. As the mom of premies, I was worried that the girls may have been falling behind developmentally. Luckily, we qualified for Easter Seals and started Occupational Therapy with Pam. We saw Pam four times a week and she provided us with exercises and different ways to play with the girls. We have seen Pam consistently for over six months and the girls are always so excited to play with her. She has provided me with exercises each week so that the girls can improve their motor movement. Pam has even made toys for the girls, which is so thoughtful of her.

Mei Mei, the younger twin, always had issues gaining weight. When she was in the NICU, she had trouble drinking from her bottle. When we finally took her home, I had trouble feeding her and could only feed her as she was falling asleep or if I was wearing her in her carrier. Luckily over time, she improved. Easter Seals was also able to provide her with a Speech Therapist. Sara was always available to answer any feeding questions and recommended ways to help with feeding. Mei Mei always seemed to do better just before our ST sessions, for which I am always grateful.

My twin girls are thriving and living wonderful lives! Thank you Easter Seals for giving this anxious mama peace of mind while raising these little miracle babies.

When to Cancel Therapy

Fall marks the start of cold, covid, and flu season. Please help us prevent widespread sickness by rescheduling or utilizing telehealth appointments when you or your child are ill.

Telehealth is available if your child is well enough for therapy, but you're concerned about spreading germs. If your child is not well enough for any type of therapy, please cancel with your therapist. Remember, when we leave your home, we go to see other children and families.

Let's all work together to keep everyone as healthy as possible.
